Do you think it is fair that we have to be forced to wear seat belts?

I believe that it should be up to my discretion whether or not I should wear my seat belt. It doesn't hurt anyone but me if I don't.

  1. Common sense should compel you to wear your seat belt, not the government. Unfortunately, common sense is in short supply.

  2. It hurts society in general if you and others don't.

When more people die or are hurt significantly in car accidents, it puts more stress and expense on law enforcement and hospital emergency rooms.

Most of the expense is carried by society, in higher taxes.

  3. The reason we have seat belt laws is for people like you who don't know what your talking about, and don't know what's in your own best interest so we pass laws forcing you to do whats in your own best interest.

  4. I agree that seat belts do save lives, but as an adult I do believe that it should be our choice. Back in the late 80's voters in Mass. struck down a mandatory seat belt law, but then in early 90's President Clinton basically blackmailed the states and said that if they didn't pass a mandatory seat belt law by a certain date--he would withhold those states highway funds.  He used 'safety' as his excuse, but if that's his thinking, then (for example) whats to stop other liberal presidents from  forcing us to wear helmets(like race cars drivers do) while driving a car for 'safety's sake'.....

  5. Yes !  Seat belts SAVE LIVES !!!

  6. Although people say the law is "for your own protection" I believe you should be able to decide if you would want to wear one or not!  Its not like you are causing danger to other people driving!

  7. No i don't .. however i believe in children being buckled  up that should always be law i think it should be the law until you are 18

  8. i personally wear my seatbelt when i am driving around the block, but America is a free country.  If you want to get in an accident and get killed, its your choice.

  9. I think that not wearing a seat belt is good for the global well being.  People that aren't smart enough to wear a seat belt should be removed from the gene pool so that they don't reproduce.

The government could charge extra for a special plate that shows that you have full "vegetable insurance" for the rest of your life and you don't have to wear a seatbelt.  No fair using airbags either!

Same goes for individuals that don't want to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle.

  10. Yes it is fair and it is for your own safety,  It is not just you that

is involved. There is the cost of scraping the body up, EMT's

police man hours. Just because you  do not like it is not important.

  11. Yes, it is fair that you have to wear your seatbelt..Do you really not want to wear it THAT badly??? I mean, seatbelts save lives..do you have a deathwish or something?? And if you get in an accident, i dont think many people enjoy seeing your dead body splatterd all over the road..nor do the people who have to clean it up! I think they are a great thing..wearing seatbelts.. and they could save not only yours but someone elses too. say you got in an accident and your body flew from the car into another car and they got into an accident and died because you didnt want to wear your seatbelt...what if you lived?? would you want that on you for the rest of your life?

  12. if you knew fisic science you would not be asking this questionwhen you travell at 60 miles one hours and your car is suddenly stop by an accident YOUR BODY CONTINUOUS TO TRAVEL AT 60 MILES AN HOURS because does'nt have anything to stop it from continuiing at 60 miles an hours aducate your self

  13. It's up to your discretion whether you follow the law or not, therefore it's up to you whether you wear the seat belt or not.

Society as a whole, though, has decided in the majority that it is worthwhile enough to wear a seat belt that it has been mandated by law.

  14. for our own goodness and safety reason as well...

  15. I agree with you, government needs to stop holding our hands.

I will not benefit from forcing some idiot to use his/her seat belt. If they want to be stupid, it should be up to them. The only thing laws like this do is make government bigger and more out of control.

  16. if we collided and you died, it would affect me.

it would affect the people who depend on you (if any).

if you received permanent injuries requiring long-term care it would affect me economically (insurance rates)
