I don't remember any third world inhabitants leaving their computers on standby and driving their 4x4's to places they could walk in in five minutes, do you?

  1. I agree completely.  The sad thing the "third world" will be suffering the most with the lively-hood and food supplies of a couple hundred million at risk in Africa.

kevin s, I am not sure if you are being sarcastic or not, but the carbon footprints of third world countries DON'T EVEN COMPARE to the US, but I agree since Americans are already used to conviences, upgrading not downgrading technology will probaly be part of the solution.

  2. is this the same third world where China are building 1 coal power station a week,

where the number of cars in India is set to exceed America within the next 20 years.

  3. Plant more trees and it wont be anyones fault

  4. Any boundary or separation  is an illusion. Blame is not important.  Life is possibly facing its biggest challenge in 150 000 years.  The illusion that man and his actions are somehow not connected to the whole is the source of our crisis. Being the only part of that life that subscribes to the illusion makes us individually and collectively responsible.

  5. Does the media lay blame, or just report the accusations of others?  I would think the main stream media would be unbiased and not so opinionated.

  6. Oh man, you have no idea how much I agree with you. We need to stop laying the blame on others, and take it upon ourselves, everyones of ourselves!

  7. I think the media uses any device it can to get ratings.  Scare-mongering is perhaps the most effective tool to achieve these ratings.

As an anesthetist I can quickly show that the average person in the US produces 64% more CO2 through daily respiration than they do from burning fossil fuels... the people in undeveloped countries produce just as much per capita.

The media isn't interested in the science behind issues because the population at large isn't interested in the science behind issues.  (Hence why American Idol pap has many times the viewership of a biochemistry lecture.)

The media it is interested in keeping you viewing long enough to watch the next comercial spot.

(as for the personal guilt over carbon, rest easy, human driving of climate is a political issue, not a scientific one.  Don't confuse the science of climate change with the politics of man-made climate change)

  8. No, its only the fault of SUV drivers.

  9. "The media isn't interested in the science behind issues because the population at large isn't interested in the science behind issues."

The inverse is what bugs me:

The scientists arent interested in the population.

Sure lop US industry off at the knees to starve out consumers.. great.

Couldnt we reduce birthrates FIRST, then with fewer consumers we'd automatically have less production?

Don't tak my word for ulterior motives paranoia.

Just next time a story about human-caused environmental changes, check out how often they bring up reduction of HUMANS.

Why? Look at how interested they are in importing immigrant workers and outsourcing to overpopulated underpaid peoples.

They have NO INTENTION of addressing population.

  10. Yes, in fact, they are sometimes driven by billionaire extremists who will pay any dollar amount to get their agenda out in a way that could seem bias.  It is unfortuanate, but just a part of our life, which means the people must come to a reasonable conclusion on their own and not rely on what they hear.  Here is a great global warming paragraph I just typed up for someone.

Global Warming is definitely not happening in the way it is perceived.  You will have to dig into the internet to figure this out unfortunately.  There was a media frenzy that played with people about thirty years ago.  The funny thing was it that they were convinced that the Earth was cooling!!  John Coleman, who founded the weather channel, is planning on suing many media members, which could include Al Gore for intentionally lying to the american people about the fraud that is Global warming.

Also to note, there are 35 errors in Al's movie that he so happened to leave out.  You can get the link here http://scienceandpublicpolicy.org/monckt...

Another funny thing is that globally, this is one of the coldest and wettest winters to date, and that humans only account for about 2-3% of CO2 gases that go into the air.  Another thing to remember is that volcanoes play the largest role in the global temperature, as they can both warm and cool the environment.  One quick link would be this one http://www.gaspig.com/volcano.htm

In reality, the scary thing for some is the fact that humans can not control nor prevent global temperature.  But do not get worried, the earth will shift back and forth about 1 degree C for numerous years, slowly moving back and forth from its "natural thermostat."  I would highly recommend you check out an astronomy book that goes into detail over the cause and effect of earth temperatures, as there should be a section in there discussing this.

  11. No they use old smokey cars, burn dirty coal and wood. We should try to be like them.

Much of the media flys around on company owned jets.

  12. it's worse that the Gov blame us

  13. Consider that the media, in any form. It represents a fairly high carbon footprint industry.  I assume that they could justify this by claiming that they do us a public service in regards to the environment by keeping us informed.  Mind you, I reckon they would make the same claim on any topic!

I also very much agree that third world people have little personal energy consumption, and often little choice in the industries they work in or produce they grow: both of which may be considered GW contributors in many cases.

Part of the issue, from a personal perspective is that media representatives are more likely to be highly paid and have high personal carbon footprints, but prefer to lay blame at the feet of their audience mambers/readership.  I concede that GW reduction should occur on an individual basis, and people like Al Gore should lead the way, as should other media heads and companies.

    I hope this perspective helps!

Good question, lots to think about!
