  1. I suspect this is another case of media mis-representation and the council had no intention of doing any such thing.  You quoted us no links but this has been mentioned in other questions and the council in question is Tower Hamlets in London who have issued a statement denying it, bear in mind too that council policies are always subject to scutiny from opposition parties who may sometimes have their own agendas.

  2. Have you ever heard of 'Frankensteins Peasant Syndrome'?...because you are exhibiting classic symptoms.

  3. It would be wrong but it didn't happen - certain troublemakers have once again misrepresented the truth to turn public opinion against Muslims. It's such a non-story it's hard to find anything about it in reputable news sources (which the conspiracy theorists would probably say was in itself evidence of blah blah yawn yawn). There was this snippet from an Asian radio station:

"The council have released a statement saying non-Muslim councillors have not been asked to refrain from eating or drinking when Muslims are observing the fast; they have only been asked to show sensitivity whilst others are fasting."

It was Tower Hamlets, by the way.

  4. can i just say sweety

that am a muslim and i dont expect other people not to eat because am fasting.

its not fair on them. why should my religion stop them from doing and eating what they want.

i think its really silly how people can bring these sort of things up in a non muslim country.

its starnge, because country's like dubai, oman, egpyt they all fasting, yet they are constantly serving tourist with food, drink throughout the ramadan.

if they were really strict about other people eating near them while they are fasting, then they would stop tourist coming into their country during ramadan season.

these people who demand that their should be no food in meetings are so stupid, and have no self control. the fasting should not be put off by other people eating. yeh sometimes it maybe hard, but you have to have faith in your religion and be strong, and not to let it get to you the fact you cant eat and everyone else can.

i dont mind people eating near me. i just ignore them. i dont stare what they are eating etc.

atrocious, and am going to have to stick up for my colleagues their unfortunatley

  5. no its not ,that makes me mad if we were in there country non of them would change for us we would have too live by thier rules ,my husband works wiv royal mail and they have some sort of fund that they use for gyms and pool rooms stuff like that they have to fight to get them 2 do something wiv it then muslims in his work wanted  a prayer room oh and they got it started on it straight away wiv they money and when they need to pray there allowed and get paid for it but the others cant even take a p**s without getting into bother ,the more we let this happen the more this country is gonna end up living by muslum rules hope im dead beofre this happens lol

  6. I don't think they have banned any Non Muslim workers from eating, it's against the law,

  7. hello no it's not ok!

if your not Muslim why should you have to follow their rules? Respect them and their beliefs yes certinly, but England is still a Catholic country and just because the government let the Muslims live by their own laws doesn't mean everyone else has to.

  8. I don't believe this for one minute.  Are you saying if you eat your lunch you get the sack. ??????

    EDIT.

I like Rosy's answer, balance in a mad world.

P.S. I am not a Muslim. just sensible!!

  9. Complete and utter rubbish.  Can we force them to eat turkey and mince pies at Christmas, to sing Carols, put up a tree, send Christmas cards and all the other Christian rituals?  No.  So why should non-Muslims be forced to follow Muslim rituals?  In fact, I remember recently one of the London boroughs refused to send Christmas cards or put up decorations in its offices for fear of offending Muslims.  Just what kind of country are we living in?

You are right, it's complete PC - Political Cr@p.

  10. If England is under Sharia Law and an Islamic country then they will.

  11. Obviously not - if it were ever seriously proposed.

  12. It's not a London council making these people do without - it's the silly Muslim Council of GB making their views known. They would prefer muslims to not have to see people from other faiths eating and drinking during council meetings - fine - then withdraw them from this duty permanently, if they cannot abide others going about business in the normal way in our Christian country, that's not a problem, don't put themselves forward for the Jobs or go and live in a Muslim state!

  13. Yes I do.

However I would like to ask which council intends to do this, as I believe this is not correct.

    ********

heh, I am not sure how I managed to put yes I think it's ok, because I don't. I think that enforcing any religious practice on any person is plain wrong.

  14. It is racist to compel one religion to comply with another , report them to the police .

  15. A total farce!

  16. They cannot ban people from eating. If they did it to me i would go for racial discrimination.

  17. No council can legally do this as you are entitled to a lunch hour by law.  I suppose, if they have many people who are muslim working in, say, an open plan office environment, they might ask that food is not eaten around them but they cannot ban non muslim staff from eating.  I don't see a problem with having to eat outside the workplace for a couple of days.  After all, if I knew a Jewish person who was fasting for Passover I would not eat in front of them or encourage a religious RC person from breaking Lenten rules.

If your company is trying to make you starve for a day, that is illegal but you can take your lunch hour and eat out - after all, it is not healthy to sit at your desk and eat so use the opportunity to go for a walk, meet up with mates for lunch and see life outside the office.

  18. I don't understand why they need to bring their cultures with them to a Christian/Catholic whatever country. I hate religion, it's the cancer of the world.

Muslims should go back to their place, everyone hates them, but are too afraid to speak out, in fear of attacks - S**M

  19. No this is wrong. They want us to respect them but are giving non of that respect back. Ramadam has nothing to do with the average white Brit on the street it's ludicrous !! :)

  20. No that is NOT ok.

Do we force muslims to eat Turkey at Christmas and sing caroles door to door.

It is nothing to do with Political Correctness, at all. It is Religion gone crazy. Councils and everyone else in this country need to remember we tolerate other religions . We are Christians here & we do not have to abide by anyone elses rules. EVER.

  21. I can't believe any London Council would do this, can you provide a link to where you saw this?

  22. Honestly, I think it's unfair. I respect everyone's religion and beliefs however, I think that in this world, everyone deserves their freedom. It is the muslim's choice to not eat due to their beliefs but others should not be banned from eating during the day as well as it would be a suppression of their rights to eat.

  23. I'm pretty sure that would be against the law. A human rights challange in Brussells would get it overturned.

Can we ban meateating when I'm around ? perhaps not eh.

  24. I wish London would get a huge pair of balls and tell all the Muslim pinheads to p**s OFF!!!! Stop catering to these Idiots!! Make them assimilate to London not the other way around!!!!!

  25. Yes.

But I can't believe how gullible people are! This story comes from the same n**i supporting paper that yesterday said "100's of illegal immigrants gang rape British student". Only to find out it was a Canadian student 'allegedly' raped by 1 person (bad enough, but a regular crime in Britain!). Why are you people so easily fooled?

  26. NO Thank you very much. They should go and live in a Muslim country then! Give them an inch, and they'll take a mile.

  27. Pedro I think you have got your facts distorted and are creating a lot ol uncalled for confusion and hysteria among Yahoo Community, which I trust was not your intention and this is just a mistake?.Some have asked for a link so here it is

    http://www.mcb.org.uk

FACT = It was NOT a Local Authority in London  that made this statement as you incorrectly imply in your question but "the Muslim Council of Great Britain", that is the body that represents Sh'te and Sunni Muslims in the UK. IT DOES NOT REPRESENT people of any other religious Faith.

Yes it would be outrageous if this had been a ruling of a London Local Authority as you suggest, but it is NOT. What it is is the equivalent to the Chairman (Dr Rowan Williams) stating at Lambeth palace during the recent Church of England Synod Conference that he would like everybody present fo consider what they will giver up during Lent .That would not mean that he expected the entire population of Canterbury City to give up something for Lent, nor would it mean Kent County Council had made any such Ruling to their workforce.

Trust this clears up all the confusion.

  28. No, it is also probably in contravention of non muslim workers human rights

  29. No, but how can the London Council stop you from eating?

  30. tell me you made this up. I beg you.

Of course is out of this world and I think these workers will be laughing in their faces, what are they looking for, a fight with the unions?

I can just imaging a strike kicking in from the non muslim, based on their religion rights(hey it's a good card play it!) and on the work conditions rights and all the staff they can come up with.

It's absurd, anyone else getting bored with all this attention to other people accastoms that have nothing to do with our self personally and should not effect our daily life?I am

  31. well good manners would dictate  dont eat in front of them , but the council should not enforce it
