Why do some women feel like it's right to smoke during there pregnancy? They say that it is too hard to quit so they just "cut down"...

Isnt your baby your #1 priority and wouldnt be pregnant actually make u quit cold turkey regardless how hard it was for the well being of your unborn baby? I quit cold turkey few yrs back when i found out i was pregnant, VERY hard but i didnt pick up 1 cigarette after i got that + result..what do u think?

p.s babies are deprived of oxygen when in utero when u smoke, so even if baby was born healthy and all. the whole 9 months they had to struggle to get oxygen.

  1. yes they should never smoke

  2. just goes to prove how addicting cigarettes can be. I don't think it's ok to smoke around anybody at all. my mother, father, grandfathers, sister, brother, and brother-in-law all smoked and you can see the affects of cigarettes and second hand smoke all through our family. all my nephews had baby asthma because of the smoke on their parents clothing, my sister and I have asthma because of my parents, my grandfathers have died and my mother is always sick from them. after seeing everything my family has been through it's so hard to see some of these people still smoking and claiming that all these problems aren't the cause of cigarettes, but genes, pollution, bad food, you name it. as long as it isn't cigs. so sad....

  3. pregnant women smoking causes serious consequence to infants in and out, nicotine to unborn child just think, deformitories in organ or extremities may occur like mouth deformitories etc

  4. its never ok to smoke during pregnancy and women who say its to hard to quit talk c**p.

I am 9 weeks pregnant the day i found out i quit i have been smoking for 17 years and stopped just like that while i had nicotine withdrawal badly the thing that stops me reaching for a f*g as i call it is the baby who's heart is beating inside of me and relies on me for everything.

  5. yeah my mom smoked while pregnant.

Now look at me i have to wear this stupid mask to help me breath

  6. its a Neddy NO NO!

    they don't want the child?

the smoker only cares to fulfill there desire (cigarettes)

shame on them, the child's life is more than the smokers

    :)

  7. No it is never ok. I wish I had NEVER smoked. Another thing my mother was right about.

  8. I think that you shouldn't smoke or drink anything that you aren't supposed to during pregnancy. One of my co-workers said that she smoked cigarettes until she was 8 months pregnant because they made her sick after that, but she said "he's perfectly fine, nothing is wrong with my son." I'm sorry but I wouldn't do that to my daughter.

  9. I've never understood the selfishness of women to smoked during pregnancy. I gave up anything that wasn't healthy - like sugary stuff! I cried once because I ate an M&M and I felt guilty - I think that was mostly the hormones. Chocolate actually has antioxidants and iron and it's not bad for you in small amounts! I was so silly!

If moms only have 9 mos to give that baby the best possible start in life, why wouldn't everyone try to do that??? I knew a girl who drank a 6 pk of Dr Pepper everyday during her pregnancy - so selfish!

  10. No I don't think it's ok.  I quit cold turkey also once I saw that positive sign.  It's hard and six months later I still get cravings sometimes, but baby comes first.  Risking miscarriage or any of the other risks smoking has just for the few minutes of pleasure you get from the cig isn't worth it.  You're sharing you body with someone else now you have to be alert as to what you do to that little person.

  11. Do you really expect some one to say "YES' that's a great thing to do ...?What about cocaine and other stuff, your right baby is #1 for at least 9 months.

  12. Some people are just totally confused and don't know any better. All you can do is pray for them and the baby and hope for the best, you can talk until you are blue in the face and it won't mean anything. The baby should be the most important but if they don't care you should leave it alone. A lot of people that have engaged in a lot of different thing while with child would tell you it's ok because they did it. But you have to make your own decision whatever you intake while with child the child ha the ability to come in contact also so whatever whom ever decide to do so be it but you continue to pray for ignorance.

  13. if u smoke or do drugs during pregnancy the baby will die, i guess mothers who do this don't want the baby

  14. Heck no it's not okay.  I've known women who continued to smoke and all their babies came early and had low birth weights.

  15. I don't understand when parents can't quit for their unborn child.  I quit cold turkey as well...I just kept myself occupied with baby stuff.  Setting up my baby's room, shopping for baby stuff....getting wrapped up in my registry...things like that.  If they just talk to their doctor and have a good support system it can be done.  I wanted one for about 2 weeks and eventually the craving went away.  Oh and blow pops help a lot...I must have went through a bag a week for a while

  16. im the same as you i quit cold turkey when i got pregnant...i hate the thought of people smoking when pregnant...plus it looks awful too,i am now breastfeeding an 18 week old healthy girl...and am still smoke free.x

  17. I cut back during all 3 of my pregnancies because my Dr. suggested it. He said quitting could put stress on me, and harm the baby. The result, 3 baby and healthy babies. So his suggestion benefited my children.

Also, asthma is a genetic disorder. Not something caused by smoking.
