Do you think it is okay to have one drink a day during pregnancy?

I was saying to my SIL that I could really go for a beer. She said a light beer is fine during pregnancy.

I personally wouldn't touch alcohol during pregnancy, I would feel too selfish and guilty. But I have heard before that one drink is fine.

What are your opinions on one drink during pregnancy.

  1. I definitely think even one drink is too much while you're pregnant. An unborn baby can't tell you that it is being hurt by the alcohol, so it's best to just abstain.

Hope all is going well for you and your baby! =)

  2. I had cravings for beer too in the middle of my pregnancy I found a sub for it though jello.  I know it sounds odd but even those root beer candies helped too.  A good friend of Mine was born with FAS she is 23 and acts like she is 15 very sweet girl but it also distorts they're features, almost the way the Downs syndrome does.  Back in the early 70s and stuff 80s women drank wine my mom did the odd time with all three of us girls we turned out fine.  But it was warned against.  Myself cannot stand the smell actually now that I am 37 weeks makes me sick.  And yes I was suppose to have my baby yesterday but some strange thing happens on labour day around here 8 babies were born and moved my inducement to today Sept 2 I am so happy not really but anyways.   I would avoid it I know its a craving and everyone is going to tell you their opinion but honestly if you have questions like that call your OB and speak with them they will give a honest answer to ease the guilt.

  3. Some Dr.'s will tell you one drink a day is fine.  But I'm with you... I haven't touched ANY alcohol during my pregnancy.

  4. I say stay away from alcohol. I've had two kids with two different doctors. One saying an occasional drink won't hurt anything and another saying no. I formed my own opinion on the topic. Think of the very first time you had just a beer. More than likely you got a buzz. Now think of how much you weighed at that time and how much your fetus weighs right now. Obviously it's going to hit the baby a lot harder than it hit you. And honestly, is a beer really worth it??? Do some research on-line to see what exactly the repercussions are of drinking while pregnant. More than likely the damage done while you were pregnant will not be evident at birth but it can become noticeable down the road when your child has a learning disorder or something equally unsettling.

  5. please dont the alcohol goes into ur babys blood system wait after u have ur baby and ur not taking care of it @ dat time in case u get drunk

  6. if you wouldnt give your newborn a beer or cigg then you shouldnt give it one while its still in the womb

  7. No I don't think its safe. It is a toxin and its known to be harmful to the baby. That's why they tell you no amount of alcohol is safe. Not one drink a day - no drink a day.

  8. i did not.i put my unborn child's health before my pleasure.

  9. A drink EACH Day is not safe. However, a drink every once in a while is fine. I even asked my dr when I was preg w/ my son.

  10. One drink is ok in early pregnancy.  NOT one drink a day, but if its a special occasion a little wine is fine.  I had some on me and my boyfriends anniversary, and me and my baby are just fine.  I dont know about beer though.

  11. I don't understand why people say one drink is fine.

It only takes one drink for the baby to contract FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome).

  12. I prefer not to drink anything but I do think one drink here and there would not hurt ,binge drinking would ..

  13. Absolutely NOT!! It does not matter if it is light beer or not. ANY amount of alcohol can harm the baby. Let your friend do what she wants...but If I were you, I would be willing to give up things like that for 9 months to be sure my baby was normal and healthy. That is just my opinion.

  14. It's unknown how exactly alcohol affects the fetus. One drink could be fine, one drink a day, I don't think so, one drink could cause FAS right away. Frankly, I tell women to abstain from alcohol 100%, it's not safe because we don't know anything about it for sure, and it's irresponsible and selfish, and rather ignorant to take such a risk.

  15. If I can avoid absolutely any risks to my baby, then I do.

FAS is a preventable disease. So, I'm preventing away, and not drinking at all!

  16. One a day is waaay too much. Some dr's suggest that one every now and then is okay but the research into this isn't conclusive and seems to be leaning more and more towards no amount of alcohol being safe during pregnancy. I personally haven't touched it nor even thought about it nor would i

  17. I would say something really light like a cup of wine would be ok. But not like a whole bottle of wine.. Make like a 1cup meaures out in a measuring cup. But I only say that because back in the olden days they werent worried about all this stuff we are nowadays.

But personally I would be to worried the rest of my pregnancy, what if I did mess my kid up, you know...
