Do you think it is right for a teenage girl to hug her dad?

I have a south african step mum and she hates it when i hug my dad, i still hug him once in a while but she will come and check to make sure that i dont. Is it her culture, is she possesive? Help would be great, thanks x

Hug your dad, h**l im a teenage boy and i hug my parents(both mom and dad). Its not her culture she is just jealous and she wants all the attention from your dad. And who cares what she thinks. Your dad has been there your whole life. He has given you so many years of love and care. DO you think its fair for some lady to jkust come and say that you cant give him some love back. Parents like being hugged by there kids, i hug my parents at least once a day. So get off of Y!A and go hug your dad. And who cares what your step-mom thinks. Tell your dad about it and give him a random hug at least once a day. What is she going to do. She cant punish you, otherwise your dad will come to know and she would have to tell him why. SO like i said, get of Y!A and go hug your dad.

Have you spoken to him about this? There is something wrong with this woman-she is basically implying that something is going on between you two.

Maybe shes jealous.

Maybe your dad doesnt hug her the wasy he hugs you.

Nothing is wrong with hugging your father.

Tell your stepmom that she needs not to hate it because hes your father and you love him.

Could be culture.  It's perfectly fine to hug your father I hug my girls all the time, couldn't bear it if I didn't.

I think there is nothing wrong to hug your dad,,,he is your dad,,you love him and he loves you,,maybe your stepmom is just jealous of your relationship between you and your dad,,if i were you i will hug my dad even infront of my stepmother,,try talking to your dad about it (infront of ur stepmother) and see how ur dad reacts,,trust me u will enjoy it! my friend has quite the same problem as you - try making ur dad watch cinderalla so he can see how u feel

The only time it's not appropriate for a daughter to hug her father is when a daughter lacks arms. Otherwise, it's ok.

Even if she lacks arms, she can do something that approximates a hug. It's always ok to hug a dad. My 70-something aunts hugged my 90-something grandfather, and that was fine for all involved.
