Grampian Police get no additional funding for guarding the royal family when they are at Balmoral castle or for policing the North Sea oilfields. Should the royals and the oil companys pay for their own policing?

    Suffice it to inform you that, for several decades, alternative royal and oilrig protection, which does not impinge on Grampian Costabulary Budgets, have been in place.

  6. I'd think it'd be much more pleasant to be in Scotland than in the north sea with the wind and rain.

    I should think they ought to get more for going out on a rough sea.

  7. I think the royal family should pay for their own protection no matter where they are. The money spent on their protection could be used to fund more teachers, nurses, doctors, dentists etc. They are well able to afford to pay for it themselves since they all have large personal fortunes.
