Question:

Do you think it is true that when the world runs out of fuels the only viable means of transport will be mules

The world is running out of fuel resources and those we have are poisoning our world. There is an argument to return to the old safe and ecological systems of bygone days!

  1. I think yes, this must be true. Fuels and mules rhyme so it seems the best possible option!!!

  2. I don't mean to be glib, but if the fuels run out everything dies (even the mules).  That is if you let the sun (solar fuel) be included in the list to run out.

Without the sun, we can function for a very short time until everything freezes and we cannot maintain the temperature range where life exists.

  3. First, as many have previously noted, we will never run out of fuel.  Fuel can vary from uranium to grass, so don't worry about running out of "fuel"

Second, we will never return to the horse and buggy days.   They were never the mythological "safe and ecological systems"  of bygone days you site.

You ever think about the excrement produced by millions of mules or horses? Now that's poison! How about the native vegetation used for animal food (i.e fuel) or the destruction of native vegetation to create farms for higher quality animal feed.  Heck, if you get nutty on environmentalism, you can't even have a buggy without cutting down a tree.  Don't forget the use of leather or whips or iron for horse shoes, wagon wheels, axles, etc.

Don't get all teary-eyed over the those magical bygone days.  They are cherry picked tales told by the old.

  4. Why mules and not horses and donkeys?  Or Camels for that matter?

  5. No, we will have cars that run on salt water i seen it on topgear

  6. The only "viable" means?  Well, when you ask it that way it puts a whole new spin on the question.

  7. Do you mean mules as in sandals? I find those uncomfortable and wouldnt be able to use them for transport...

  8. Dude, there will always be electric power.

  9. no.

    Bicycles

    Horses

    Dogsleds

    Wind powered vehicles.

Cars can be converted to run on steam produced by burning cow chips...

Sorry... but the only way there will be no fuel is if everyone and EVERY LIVING THING is dead.

so when there is no fuel... you won't care.

    ***********

And the water powered vehicles are a SCAM.  they don't work.  They never will work.  Its impossible.

Quit listening to Al Gore... he's got less inelligence than a retarded amoeba.

  10. I'm sorry but that question made me laugh. We have so many other means for transportation.. Honestly we don't have to set ourselves back 2,000 years if we run out of fuel. We have bikes.. electric cars.. oh yes and our feet.. vegetable oil cars. By the time we run out of oil we would already create an alternative to fuel cars.

  11. There is a theory that states we will never run out of fuel, that its infinite. The scarcer it becomes, the dearer it becomes, thus the more will be found.

  12. We won't run out of fuel.

  13. except the fumes killed the mules.

  14. what's wrong with horses??  Pedal cycles, mandraulic scooters and good old shanks' pony.  I can't wait!  Sooner the cars go, the better for me!  I drive my horses so it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

Remember, every time a car backfires, something dies, everytime a horse backfires, something grows in it.

  15. Have you ever been near a mule?  They pollute a -lot- worse than a car, and the car doesn't attract insects.

Aside from wich, If we run out of -all- fuels, we have much bigger problems than getting around.  That would mean that the oceans have dried up, the sun has burned out, the molten core of the Earth has somehow congealed, all plants and animals have died, and their corpses have mysteriously disintegrated.  Because if we have -any- of those things, we have more energy sources than we know what to do with.

  16. an agreement - its difficult to meet

best form of transport is feet.

    but the arguments blocksed

with the smell of the socks

so, I'll sit on the fence with my seat!

  17. That is a stupid assertion. The earth is being bombarded every day with millions of KW hours worth of power from the sun. We may indeed run out of FOSSIL fuels. But biofuels and renewable resources will NEVER run out as long as the sun shines.

  18. Bicycles dude. Walking. Solar powered vehicles. Hyrdogen. Plant oil. Does that answer your question?

  19. I think you'll find we have a lot of other options for fuel.

While natural fuel sources are 'running out' i think sometimes people lose sight of what that really means.

We've only been using these resources as fuel for about 150 years, and best estimates seem to indicate we have anywhere from 400 to 600 years left of resources.

It seems unlikely that we'd still be burning Oil or Natural Gas in any meaningful quantity 500 years from now anyway.

Our power sources are already converting to different means, with less dependance on those resources. Fully 25% of the world's energy is now Hydro Electric, and Nuclear power generation is at 13-14% and rising, with over 100 Nuclear reactors being built at the moment.

A misleading indicator for people is that cars, since they are mobile, continue to use Gasoline, it's obviously difficult at this point to put a hydroelectric generator or nuclear microreactor in a car.

In terms of poisoning the world, emmissions are moving to a much more acceptable level, and again vehicles account for only about 1% of those, despite the emphasis put on them.

Other technologies, such as Solar just arn't ready yet, but are being developped. Solar power currently is only 8% efficient at extracting an already weak energy source, but that will likely improve over time.

Wind Power seems unviable even if technology increases, but there are certainly many other theoretical methods of power generation on the horizon as well.

So I guess to answer your question, I don't beleive the world will run out of fuel because more energy efficient methods are already taking its place, and we have 400 more years to perfect them.

There's an interesting quote from a Saudi Arabian Prince:

"The Stone Age did not end due to a lack of Stones, nor shall the Oil Age end for lack of Oil"
