  1. Yes, it would be nice to know my food server/cook doesn't have Hep B. Honestly, HIV is not the big problem, as it is a terribly fragile virus and is destroyed on contact with gastric juices. Hep B is an encapsulated virus that lives for over 30 days and truely puts the patron and anyone who works closely with the server at risk. Currently, flu is epidemic and is the highest risk for all of us. It's better to know than not know.

  2. Yes, definitely

  3. YES   IT  SHOULD  BE  MANDATORY  AND ANY GOOD RESTURANT DOES HAVE THEIR (ALL HELP ) TESTED INCLUDINT THE DISHWASHERS

  4. I don't see why it should. the extreme heat of cooking the food would kill the viruses and plus those can only be transfered through bodily fluids like blood and others.

  5. No it is discrimatory. As long as you are clean and tkae proper precautions, there is no issue. I think most people who have a disease do this. Myself and other family memebers have worked all over world (US and abroad) in restuarants and have never found an instance where employees were sick and making patrons sick. Yes it happens, but more often it is bacteria from food from plant or imporoper storage/cooking.

  6. I totally agree with you yes anyone who handles food should be checked out completely head to toe inside and out

  7. Yes. A test for Hepatitis B would probably be the most useful.

  8. I agree, but if your contention is that it's okay because it's cooked, what about salads, chopped vegis, sliced fruits, frozen parfets, ice creams and just plain ice water and SUSHI, let's not forget SUSHI!  This is getting scarry.  I think I'm going to start cooking at home again.

Where does Hepatitis A come from?

Hepatitis A spreads from the f***s of infected people, and can produce disease when individuals consume contaminated water or foods. Cold cuts, sandwiches, fruits, fruit juices, milk, milk products, vegetables, salads, shellfish, and iced drinks are also implicated in outbreaks. Water, shellfish, and salads are common sources. Contamination of foods by infected workers in food processing plants and restaurants is increasingly common.

How can a Hepatitis A infection be prevented?

•The illness can be prevented by a shot immune globulin within 2 weeks of exposure.

•Wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water after using the bathroom, changing diapers, and before preparing/eating food. Clean and disinfect bathrooms and diaper-changing surfaces frequently.

Never change diapers on eating or food preparing surfaces.

    •Cook shellfish before eating.

•Drink water from approved source only.

How Hepatitus B is spread: The virus is spread by direct contact with the blood, serum, or sexual fluids of an infected person.

  9. I wish they would have mandatory testing for Hepatitis.  It is easily transmitted into your food.  This is what frightens me about going to new restaurants, you never know what is going on in the kitchen.  I prefer dining out at places where you can actually see the kitchen.

    Just found this:

    Hepatitis-shots-all-around-at-Los Angeles restaurants/Posted on March 7, 2007 by Hepatitis A Attorney

Los Angeles County officials are considering whether to give Hepatitis A vaccinations to some 100,000 food-service workers after an infected cook was found to be working for a local catering company.

KAI RYSSDAL: You know those signs in restaurant bathrooms that say employees have to wash their hands before returning to work? One, you'd hope they'd do that anyway. And two, that might not be enough anymore. At least in Los Angeles. Food service workers here could be facing mandatory Hepatitis A vaccinations.

  10. yes, and whether or not you test positive - no matter the size of the restaurant or the size of the city - hairnets & gloves PLEASE

  11. Yes!
