Question:

Do you think it would be dangerous for me to eat this?

I think I have a shrimp allergy that I developed 6 years ago. One ill-fated night, after eating shrimp, I had a really bad reaction where my throat felt like it was closing and I broke out in welts all over my face/lips. I ended up in the hospital in the middle of the night.

I still eat shrimp in moderation but I have never had as bad a reaction. I do get swelling every once in awhile with the shrimp (but that hasn't happened in a year).

Anyhow, I am craving shrimp with broccoli from the Chinese place ( I get it fairly often and no reaction) but I am kind of worried because some people told me that I could die if I keep doing this. What would you do? Would you order it or get something else?

  1. Do I think it's wise to eat it?   No, probably not.  You said it yourself, you ended up in a hospital, and assuming that a possible shrimp allergy really is the culprit, that's dangerous.

I'd order something else.  I mean, it's a craving.  Cravings are usually best to resist anyways.  And I don't think I'd be risking my life over seafood anytime soon.

But, hey, sometimes you got to live life on the edge.  Is it worth the risk for you?  I don't think that's really a question anyone can answer but yourself.

  2. FROGGGG YES!!! I wouldn't eat it

What you are experiencing is called an anaphylactic reaction which can lead to anaphylactic shock which if left untreated can kill you

I'm allergic to bee stings so I always carry what's called an Epi-stick with me in the event that I get stung

An Epi-stick is a pre-measured injectable dosage of the drug epinephrine  that can save your life when used in an emergency

You may want to talk to a doctor about all of this

    Good luck

  3. Go to your medical doctor or specialist and get allergy tested.  Seek advice from the experts - this is your health you are gambling with.

  4. go to the doctor and they will be able to tell you if your allergic to shrimp so that you can know for sure otherwise i wouldnt eat it if i were you just in case

  5. I wouldn't suggest you eat it if you have allergic relations, regardless if it's once in awhile you get swelling.
