Do you think it would be safe health wise for me to start walking again?

I have high blood pressure which I take medication for, but I'm currently about 100 lbs. overweight and it's been humid and warm here in Chicago. I also tend to sleep in. Do you think I would be OK if I start walking again, given the conditions I just described. Just wondering.

  1. Exercise will help bring your blood pressure down when you lose some weight. Start out at 10 mins a day, and just increase a little each day. Not only is it ok for you to walk, you better get started. Also, always check with your doctor to make sure.

    Good luck.

  2. Consult your doctor before you do anything. For what you just described, nobody would recommend you do any exercise without a doctors permission

  3. If the heat and humidity are a problem, try walking inside an old mall where there aren't many shops, or some place indoors. Then you wont have to worry about time of day because of the air conditioning.

Start slowly and work up. Don't over-do it. Allow your body to get used to the physical activity. And keep it up, don't give up!!!

  4. If you limit your walks to 30 minutes, every other day, you should  be OK. But do not replace the Dr's advice, with ours.

  5. I would consult your medical practitioner before starting but - yes I would have thought that a bit of walking would be fine.

Additional weight is making your heart work harder which is not helping with your blood pressure so if you can shift some of the pounds then this will help you out generally.

Definitely see your doctor and discuss with him what is a safe level of exercise.

    Good luck
