There would be more accidents if we were required to wear all of that extra stuff, we could not move around and if we were in an accident they probably could not get us out of the car...

Padding - no.

Now, if we were required to wear motorcycle helmets, that would make for less fatalities from car wrecks.

It would probably slow reaction time since you're all suited up.  Probably not any safer

I'm sure as far as some aspects of safety it might help but turning to see a blind spot might be a little more complicated.
