  1. Why?  Do you begrudge the pittance we spend on people, while turning a blind eye to the billions in waste, fraud and mismanagement elsewhere?  Just in Iraq the Pentagon has $8 billion whose whereabouts is totally unknown!

  2. depends on what it is you're talking about. afdc has been revamped pretty substantially anyway. you get removed from the program after five years. since we don't have a mandatory living wage in this country i'd say no to ending the food stamp program. lots of people who work would go hungry if that happened. one other thing that should also be mentioned: most people in america have the idea that the majority of those who benefit from welfare are blacks. this is incorrect. the largest number of those collecting today are whites, about forty percent according to statistics.

  3. Sure you want blind people working at Mcdonalds right??  It might happen if Mccain is elected.  I do not see a bright future with that wife cheater as commander in chief

  4. yes by increasing warfare program

  5. Abolish, no...  overhaul, most definately...  there are people out there who genuinely need help...  I have no problem with a welfare system that helps injured or incapacitated people...  I also have no problem with a system that helps people get back on their feet after losing everything, even if it is their own fault...  the key phrase there is: "get back on their feet"...  what we need to get rid of are the thousands of perfectly healthy people living off welfare because they can't budget their money and/or keep having children and/or won't get up, get and keep a job...

  6. Alternitive is people make their own money through computer graphics. Designs specially for worker and other trades like artists. Maybe prostitutes. Should have own currency anyway.

Might also end such if prostitutes were to make their own currency rather than rely on that of others. Point is to include most trades for currencies.

  7. It would not benefit anyone to rid these programs.

For one you would have thousands, maybe millions of social workers, etc out of a job making unemployment sky high.  You would have these welfare recipients and their children thrown out onto the streets with the social workers.  They would be begging you on the streets for money and food.  Crime would be sky high because these people will need to eat somehow.  We would sink into a depression.

  8. Abolish it, no of course not, despite the hostility shown to the needy, no one truly wants to see people dying in the streets or orphans begging on roadways.

But a good deal of misinformation exists as to what has happened to welfare twelve years ago, when changes were made so that simply being lazy and shiftless isn't grounds for welfare anymore.  And the thirty year old story of the Food Stamp recipient who pays for steaks beer and cigarettes while the hard working person buys cheese and crackers has been around almost as long as I have.

The reality is that when workfare took place they thought they were going to get the slacker off, and instead they found that most people on welfare stayed on for only a year.  And that the biggest users of welfare were infants and children.

Many of the old canards were disproved.  Means tests and tighter standards left some in the dust, mental and physical illness and disability means that you can't get care if you have a job, so some can't work because if they did they couldn't get lifesaving coverage.  Another reason for universal health care.

Welfare isn't an enjoyable ride, its a soul grinding experience that most people find unbearable.

  9. immediately, it would probably hurt the US. but in a long run, i believe that it would help because the poor people will have motivation to get a job and support themselves when the government can't.
