  1. No, i dont think so. If you are over weight, by alot, you need to have a bigger seat, which costs the airline more money. Therefore, the airline has a right to charge you more for your seat.

  2. Yes. I think its fair to pay for the space and weight used.

  3. If a person is so large that they require two seats, then by all means they should have to pay for both seats.

Why should the airline have to eat the cost?

  4. It doesn't have to be a degrading experience.  Airline (and in fact ALL service) personnel should show respect when dealing with customers.  It's a basic tenet of customer service.  That being said, someone who does not fit comfortably into a standard airline seat has options other than to purchase two seats.  Premium cabins of most commercial airlines offer less cabin density and therefore wider seats.  Perhaps it might be advantageous to look at it from the view of the person sitting next to the larger person.  Is it fair to them to have part of their space taken away to benefit someone else?  In fact, airline weight and balance measurements are based on an "average" person of "average" weight.  That means that thinner people and those of average weight are already supplementing the cost of a seat for heavier people.  I say treat the situation with respect and dignity but if you choose to fly in the economy section of an aircraft and can't fit comfortably into a seat then you should be required to purchase two.

  5. I think it makes sense...I mean, if two people go to FedEx to mail boxes, the person with the bigger/heavier box will have to pay more.  I think it's only fair that what a person pays should be in proportion to what costs the airline incurs in transporting him/her.  Weight of the person (and their luggage) is one of many factors that affect that.

But, you didn't ask if I thought it made sense.  You asked if I thought it is degrading.  Yes, I would imagine it probably is.

  6. yes i do. im not overweight but i know people who are and it really hurts them to kno that people put a price on their weight. its rude and they should make the seats bigger cuz i weigh 120 and the seats are still kind of small and uncomfortable for me

  7. Not at all.

If you are too large for a standard seat you should have to pay for more space, common sense if you ask me.
