Do you think its good to volunteer at an animal shelter or humane society?

i would like to know if people volunteer at humane societies or animals shelters or at least people think that you should volunteer. i volunteer and it makes me feel really good about myself.

I have volunteered once as part of my volunteer group "Roots and Shoots" animal projects.  For animals i have also become a vegetarian.  Mainly our group has run our humanitarian group "Build a Bear to Show You Care" thru a grant bestowed upon us by Youth Venture.  We are the youngest group to get a grant from them.  We deliver Build a Bears and hold parties for kids at local hospitals.  We are looking to start a tutoring program at our school also. I agree, volunteering is a really feel good thing to do.

well i volunteer at my local soup kitchen and i have friends who volunteer at the animal shelters and i guess alot of people dont think of it much because america has become base on monetary value on everything that people think they should be paid for their time whether its doing good or not

I volunteer and I agree but it is hard. I just took in a stray kitten. I was just supposed to check on it but I thought I was checking on a cat. That's what the description on the paper I had said. The kitten was hungry and so thin. I didn't bring food with me. I didn't expect to see the kitten. I thought it would take a few visits before my timing would be right. Volunteering is a great way to foster healthy self-esteem. It is very rewarding. I've been a hospice volunteer and that was great. Unfortunately, there aren't any people in need of hospice in my area. That's a good thing I guess but the people that need it are out of my area.

I'm volunteering with an organization that controls the populations of feral cat colonies. I'm also volunteering with the animal control shelter. It feels great to be helping but it's hard to walk away from the animals. I want to take them all home and I can't. I want to protect them too. I'm wrestling with that. I'm hoping that it will become easier because I'm new at the animal control shelter. I've been a volunteer with the feral cat group for almost 2 years.

I've been a shelter volunteer for years and found this to be more fulfilling than my salaried jobs.
