  1. I'd say no it's not OK, but only because it's against the law.   I don't like the inconsistency in our laws pertaining to legal adulthood.  Kids can drive a car (a lethal weapon!) at 16.  They can vote, get married, smoke cigarettes, and die for their country at 18.   But they can't drink until they're 21. True, there some reasons why the laws are what they are, but it would seem like 18 would be a good age to have all the rights and responsibilities of adulthood.  Currently, the 21st birthday has turned into a huge drinking ritual.  When the legal drinking age was 18, there were other things to celebrate at the same time, and drinking was only part of the bigger picture.  A lot of people did celebrate by drinking in bars, of course, but it wasn't quite the same emphasis on binge drinking.  I think lowering the drinking age to 18, along with raising the driving age to 18, requiring a comprehensive alcohol education program in the high schools, and having very stiff penalties for DUI would be more reasonable.  It has worked in other countries.

  2. No, people under 21 should not drink. The drinking age is lower in other countries because American parents raise their children to be dumber and less responsible than Europeans.

  3. No!

They learn that its ok that they're breaking the law!

    It can be very unhealthy!

Especially if they are under 16..

    Definite no no.

    Hope i helped, sammie

  4. no its hard enough to control an adult who is drunk let alone a child but go ahead if you like jail.

  5. Here the law is, at 16 you may have a beer or a glass of wine with a meal.

You cannot buy alcohol untill 18 and that is the legal age.

So in answer to your question I do think it's okay as long as they are 17+ in my opinion and NOBODY should ever drink drive

  6. Yes, as long as they can hold their liquor well. I'm in high school, not a parent, but still- drugs and alcohol make you a bad citizen, not a bad person. As long as it truly doesn't hurt anyone, it's alright.

  7. I live in Canada. Here, the legal age to consume/purchase liquor is 19. I lived in England, the legal age there is 18. In some places in Europe, the legal age is 16.

I hate the fact that the LAW is the be all and end all. All those that said - no, it is not ok because it is the law - have you ever driven over the speed limit??

  8. OK...Here's the honest truth.  I think that 90% of kids drink before they are 21.  I know you never want your child breaking laws or putting themselves in danger but you have to know the facts!

My mother never did but some parents allowed monitored drinking.  I personally thought its a good idea.  It teaches your children to recognize signs of having enough vs. too much and that they can trust you with this issues.  Wouldn't it be so comforting to know that your child will call you for a ride when they've had too much instead of trying to drive home!

Now I'm not saying this is a great choice that all parents should follow but it's honest with the reality of what's really going on.  Your 15 year old is a no go but your 19 year old can have compromises!

Just understand will most likely will be going on regardless of your wishes and come up with a game plan that you feel comfortable with!

  9. NO i dont....the only time you should be allowed to drink if you are under 21 is if you are in the military....if you can fight and die for your country you should be able to have a stinkin drink or two....

teenagers acting dumb in high school NO NO NO....and mind you i am not a older person i am fairly young. I think if you start drinking young then you are setting yourself up for disaster

  10. No, I don't think its OK.  The legal age limit for alcohol consumption is 21.  No parent in their right mind would encourage their children to break the law.  I know some think "well, if they are going to do it, I'd rather them do it in my house", but that's BS in my opinion.  I refuse to give my kids "permission" to break the law.  If they do choose to drink underage, then they can be the ones to deal with the consequences, not me.  I teach my children to obey the rules of this house as well as the laws of society.  If I start making exceptions to one rule, they'll expect me to do it for other rules/laws as well.  Its just not gonna happen.

*Who cares what 'everyone else' is doing.  You know how the old saying goes, if all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?  Just because you're mature and think you can handle it still doesn't make it right.  Just hold your horses until you're 21.  You'll have plenty of time to drink alcohol then.

  11. its not llegal in this country...

    so no...

  12. If you're in the US it is illegal, so no it is not okay.

  13. My parents rule was they would never let us drink while we lived home, but once we moved out, then if we came to a picnic or something then they didn't care if we drank. Which I think is fine. Kids start drinking at like 11 nowadays, I think it would be ridiculous if your kids had their own apartments, had a job, and payed for everything themselves and when they came to visit you didn't allow them to drink a few beers they brought. I don't think you should let a 15 year old drink beer no. But if your child is moved out doing their own thing I think it is fine.
