they don't count as aliens if they're from earth

There have been sightings of UFOs coming from the ocean as such.  See the TV series "UFO Hunters" which looks at USOs at a specific area just off California.

Atlantis of earth legend - was of a high advanced civilisation (in our ancient ancient past - there were highly advanced civilisations here), in which a major cataclysm sent it into the sea - not to be confused with Stargate Atlantis, which twists the legend around, to something else entirely.

I think it's more plausible that if some of these sightings are real, that they are from another time rather than another planet.  

They wouldn't be aliens if they were from earth.
