Do you think its possible to think of absolutlely nothing for a small amount of time?

my friend says it is possible to think of nothing for a small amount of time. while i say u are always thinking of something even if its simply a color u are looking at. what do u think?

  2. I have tried this many times, and I always catch myself thinking about not thinking! If it's possible, I haven't been able to do it, haha.

  3. Look into some material on meditation.  Some forms of meditation take the expression of "clearing your mind" quite literally.

  4. If I get your meaning right, not while conscious. The nature of consciousness is that it is "about" something. During meditation, you are not "thinking thoughts" about anything, not representing things to yourself with an inner narrative; you're just experiencing - and you may feel your mind is empty of thoughts. But you are still sort of thinking about something - you're still perceiving.

  6. yes, it definately is possible because once i was sitting in the back seat of a car and just looking out the window. for a while i wasn't thinking of anything

  7. yes.  it's called meditation.  i have a notoriously short attention span and i can still meditate.  it's wonderfully calming and theraputic.

  9. Your brain is always doing something, unless you enter a vegetative state. This can happen while you are watching the simpsons, family guy or listening to female conversations.

    I should probably read those community guidelines.

  10. yes it's possible with lots of training. just like when you meditate you practice clearing your mind until it becomes easy for you.
