  1. for some, yes.  for some, no.  start with four years and see how that goes.

  2. It depends upon:

-Do you want to go through 13 weeks of boot camp at Parris Island?

-Are you willing to accept that you may have to serve in combat?

-Are you of the mind-set of a Marine?

-Do you believe this is your calling (i.e. is this what you truly believe you will be best at in terms of talent, passion, and desire)?

This is not for everyone.  It requires a very special person.  Military personnel are special people.  They are ultimately selfless people.  If you think that defines who you are, the Marines will turn out to be a *sterling* career choice.

  3. Not when there are so many other better choices to chose from at this time!  In fact it would be a very poor choice! Watch how many recruiters offer thumbs down to support their own mistake in life!

  4. It just depends what you want of your life and what skills do you have right now.  I would also think of what skills you want to acquire in the Marines.

  5. Don't listen to the naysayers! most likely they were military REJECTS!

not good enough for the military.

Enlist for 3 years for a job (MOS) that might interest you and one that you can use in the civilian world (no offense to combat arms)

if you like it then re-enlist for another term.

I enjoyed all my experiences in the military, travel, people, jobs, etc...

I also earned my College degrees on Active Duty

    Now, on my second career!

  6. NO NO NO NO

You have no idea until you join what its gonna be like. Start out with the least amount of years for joining up. Then if you hate it, its only a few years, but if you like it, re-up and possibly get that bonus that everyone thinks is so impressive, but really its nothing compared to what you could be making in the outside world.
