  1. Yes, it'll help they adjust for elementary school.

  2. Yes.  My kids had a worksheet and had to do 10 minutes of reading (assisted) every night and I signed a reading log.

  3. not alot but definately should start adjusting to school and homework

  4. yes, but should be easy things that dont take them much time.

it's a good way to review wat their learning in shool.

  5. unless it's coloring a picture, homework for kindergarten is a little harsh.

  6. yes, but it should be flexible and a reasonable amount.  My son brings home his homework folder on Monday and has until Friday to read the 2 books, write their titles in his notebook, answer a simple question about 1 book, and do a drawing/writing activity, he likes sitting down and doing homework with his big sister :)

  7. fun, easy, yes, serious, no!

  8. That depends.  If it is half day kindergarten then I think they should.   If it's full day then no more than a 10 minutes if at all.

Would this be full day or half day kindergarten BTW?

  9. Personally, I don't think that kindergarteners should have homework.  They are just starting out in the learning process and a day of school is enough for them to have to concentrate on schoolwork.  I also think that homework shouldn't be given to children if they are unable to complete it themselves.  For families with multiple children it can really take away from the family life to be spending every night working on homework with them.  I kindergartner definately can't do it themselves.

  10. yes, it helps reinforce what they learned during the day.  my daughter is 5 and in K - everyday when she gets home we do 1 or 2 pages of homework - not hard stuff, like tracing letters or counting shapes, coloring by number to find a picture, that sort of thing. READING READING READING!!!!!

  11. yes however .. i think .. that .. they shouldnt have !!! 5 million things to do..

  12. No.  None at all.  "Homework" at that age should be limited to learning to be a kid and to get along with others.

  13. No. Let them be little while they can be!

  14. yes, it's fun for them now - they actually can't wait to do it - it makes them feel grown up. It shows them some responsibility too in getting it home, doing it, and getting it back to school. Maybe one thing a week is good.... ♥

  15. Minimal homework is okay.......maybe one little worksheet that enforces math or reading skills.  But no more than 15 minutes or so, and none on weekends.

  16. Yeah.

Not a lot and not anything hard.

    But something.

I had to write down my phone number one day in kindergarten.

    lol

  17. Absolutely!  I don't think they should be given anything they see as work (i.e. anything extremely difficult), but they should be given things to complete at home.  My youngest is in K at a charter school, and at the beginning she was given things to do at home which would enhance what she learned at school (writing her name, coloring certain things certain colors, etc.); and now that we're entering the third quarter, she gets fun games to bring home (one was a paper where we had to make a spinner, then she and I took turns spinning it; four shapes, and each person's chart had four columns with five squares in each.....the person who completed the column for any one shape was the winner).  She's also now reading at a second-grade level, which is a good thing....the school lets them check out books from the library, and when she reads them she can tell the class what the book was about (optional; the teacher never makes the kids share if they don't want to).

Having something resembling homework can help the child adjust to school routines, as well as create new routines at home.  If they are getting homework that takes more than 5-10 minutes to complete, it is too much for their age and attention span.  Many schools now follow the National PTA's 10-minute rule for homework; 1st grade, 10 minutes; 2nd grade, 20 minutes; and so on.  I also feel that kindergarden teachers should not be so strict on completion of homework on time; we parents all know that even a kindergartener can still have a toddler-like meltdown, which would make getting any assignments done next to impossible.  Teachers really should take this into consideration (ours does, she's WONDERFUL) and allow the child to complete it when he or she is more comfortable doing so.

  18. if they want to.

  19. My child did and it was never a problem.  Our school goes by the 10 minutes of homework per grade level rule.  So his homework only took about 5 minutes in kindergarten and it was usually a small book to read.  Now he's in first grade and he gets approx. 10 minutes of homework per day.

I like this method, it helps you know if your child is struggling because the homework will take longer if they are.  Now, if my child was bringing home 30 - 60 minutes of homework, that would be to much and I wouldn't agree with that.

  20. Maybe just fun stuff a couple of times a week. It is good to help get them into a routine of taking time to get it done. It also helps to get parents involved in what the kids are learning.

  21. they do here where i live at! but not alot!

  22. no unless its to learn their abc's

  23. i think its okay as long as its not a lot...my daughter was in kindergarten last year and she was loaded with homework every week...it was horrible and the work was difficult too...they are teaching kids in kindergarten things i didnt learn until 2nd or 3rd grade...lol

  24. My daughter had homework from day one of kindergarten and now in 1st grade she is advanced reading...she loved it!

  25. Yes and no.

Yes, because the homework should be like learning their letters and numbers.

No, because they are already learning in school and don't need to take extra work home.

  26. My 5 yr old daughter is in kindergarten and has homework everyday, except for Fridays. Honestly, its not fun for her and I see why she gets tired. When i brought this up to her teacher, she replied, "she needs to get use to it because 1st grade is a lot more work". I think its too much but I still sit with her and make sure it gets done.

  27. yes i think they should only have a lil bit and no because for some it may be kinda hard for a small child but to me yes so it can help them improve

  28. Yes it is good for them to review what was done that week in school

  29. I think one sheet is good for them, start understanding how school works, nothing that would take longer than ten minutes though

  30. I don't think any kid should have homework. There's plenty of work during school, so it's not necessary to have even more. It just adds onto stress, and even adds onto stress for parents because they have to listen to their kids complain, and have to help them. It's terrible.

  31. Yes so they can keep practicing at home, Mom knows exactly what they are learning and can help better and they get used to the homework routine. Obviously nothing too hard but just some extra practice at home.
