Do you think kids that learned to read early are better students? Can anyone argue against this?

I was taught to read before I went to school and I learned to love reading. I was always a good student and I noticed the same thing in one of my friends also. I have also noticed people who don't like to read or learned to read later on did worse in school or they simply didn't like it. What do you think?

  1. I think it depends on the person.

A friend of mine learned to read before he started school because his mother insisted and he's a C student who barely does his work even though he absolutely loves to read. One could find him reading on a weekend instead of hanging out with his friends.

I learned to read German before I started German school and I did no better and no worse. I had grades that weren't bad but they weren't right there fabulous either.

  2. Well Angel, it would depend on several things>> you can be an excellent reader as far as turning the pages, but if you don't comprehend/understand what you're reading, then it won't make you a better student.   Also, the reading of something doesn't necessarily mean you commit it to memory & are able to recall it later.   That's a learning technique.

And lastly, should you find the subject matter dull &  boring as many textbooks are dry & drone on, you have little interest in pursuing the subject matter.  And the same for the teacher>> only some can really inspire you to greatness.

A good author will find a way to stimulate your interest.  A great author will leave you wanting more.  There are many good authors, but only a few great ones>> John Steinbeck was one of the greats.
