I believe large, luxury SUV drivers are very inconsiderate and have very little regard for others on the road. Yesterday, someone driving a Large Escalade swerved two lanes to the right to pass one vehicle and then back two lanes to the left, only to find him or herself two vehicles ahead of me. It appears, althought there are exceptions, these types of drivers are only focused on their own needs and desires and care very little about those around them.

One of the major resolutions to the gas price problem is changing habits and reducing the consumption of fuel. This especially applies to large SUV drivers that get 10-15 miles per gallon, and even less than that when they are swerving in and out of traffic. After paying 60-80k for their vehicle, however, do you think they care about the price of gas.

I find it hard to believe that anyone who purchases such an impractical vehicle for themselves would have any desire to change their selfish habits to benefit the rest of us

  1. I think most of them are concerned about gas prices, like other people.  It is not just SUV drivers who are inconsiderate.  I make several long distance (over 850mi minimum) per year and I note many inconsiderate drivers, from big rigs, Suv's, sedans, minivans, compact and sport-type cars. Gas consumption in Florida has dropped 18% for the first time in over 25 yrs. But there will always be people with a "Me first" attitude, especially when driving.

  2. You have a very narrow view of the world. I have a big SUV and a large, young family who I haul around town to all of their activities. Yes, my choice. Yes, we are having to cut back b/c of the price of gas. Really...you sound more jealous than concerned. And why DO you care about others paying more for gas?

I bought this vehicle three years ago and I cannot AFFORD to sell it at a loss and buy a new (smaller, more impractical for me)hybrid. Wanna buy me one?

I am a very considerate and careful driver with a spotless record as well.

  3. I live in a very wealthy area.  Before this gas crisis, it was common to see Hummers around town every day.  You do not see them anymore.

In general people with the means are still driving their huge cars and making few/no changes.  Most of them have so much disposable income that the extra $400 per month is not enough to really hurt.  So, no, they don't care.  They drive their 10 mpg vehicles well over 55 mph, too.

There are many people who have large vehicles who can not afford to trade them in, or as in my case, who have large families that need to get around.  I still drive my minivan for both reasons.

I am seeing motorcycles everywhere.  People who do not have the disposable income are opting for more reasonable ways to get around.
