  1. In Muay Thai they fight with music! In Caperioa it's a martial art hidden though music. So it's possible to benifit the person who thinks it works.

  2. ballet...yes

apparantly ballet workouts and training is the extremely diificult...hence primadonnas having legs bigger than god.

jazz?...i dont know...if by jazz you mean jazz dance...not sure...i mean it can help with your coordination, balance, maybe even memory and stamina with the continuous dance moves...so maybe that could contribute to learning martial arts...but not fighting in real life.

hawaiian? i dont know what learning a language could do for you in a fight.....

  3. Not especially, but I think it will help socially.  And it will help you look good.

Van Damme learned ballet when he was young and called it one of the most physically demanding exercises there is.  It helped him to look good when he was doing those flying split kicks, but I doubt that those would be much good in a real fight.  However if you want to get help in a real fight, then the best way is not to learn dancing, but to learn more martial arts.  Not different martial arts, just more.  Practice makes perfect and all that.

  4. I doubt that any real benefit would be noticed.  You may have slightly better balance, but that would be it.

  5. Only slightly; they may help with keeping balance.

Most martial arts have a defined set of moves and points in matches are awarded for specific contacts and blocks.

A "real fight" will be open to actions outside the fair moves allowed in sport fighting.

  6. Not likely

  7. Not likely, learning those have no co-relation with any combat system, plus being a mixed martial artist should give you an idea.

  8. Well looks like I am going against the Norm here...

I am going totally under the assumption that you mean dance, like Ballet, Jazz dancing, and Hawaiian dancing.

Will dancing help a Mixed Martial Artist in a real fight? Not as far as combat applications but it will help them in learning.

FIrst and foremost ballet takes a lot of flexibility and muscular endurance, which will help with the application of techniques, as well as conditioning.

The other dancing not as much...

But it will all universally help in one way: Body Control, as in complete control of you body.

Body Control has a HUGE impact on how fast you pick up a technique. Body Control means that if during a punch someone tells you to turn your toes in a quarter turn more, you can do it without it being an awkward adjustment. Body control means that any slight changes and tweaks to techniques, you are able to perform without it feeling awkward and unnatural.

Body Control is very important to how fast you can learn and retain techniques.

It might sound funny, but most people do not have complete control over their body in that aspect. Not everyone can twist their hips 2 inches more in this direction upon command and retain that correction.

So dancing can help MMA fighters with balance, body control and the flexibility to pull off some submissions or prevent takedowns. But it is a less practical means by giving and refining some intangibles. In an indirect way it can help in a real fight, because it provides conditioning, flexibility, strength, endurance, and body control.

Keep in mind many other activities do this as well. So don't expect to find a MMA fighter taking up jazz dancing when he could be circuit training, doing Yoga, or Plyos instead.

But having a background in dance gives someone a leg up on people who have no athletic background, especially in learning moves quicker and being to adjust to changes in technique much faster.

At least that is my take..

(edit) carpenter: Go to youtube and watch Highlights of Genki Sudo... you will see someone dancing all around the ring.. and yet winning...

  9. It might make the fight more interesting, I've bored with the fights lately.  They are not entertaining, maybe someone dancing around the cage would be more entertaining! It could  draw fans just to see him/her.

  10. I have no clue how that could possibly help! With Ballet you will be in better physical shape, but I think it will help you look graceful while your getting grounded and pounded...

I like ballet by the way :) I also like jazz... I know music won't help unless you want to get beat up to a cool soundtrack...

Hawaiian? I think your joking with us yes? :P
