to reduced global warming do you think cities with population of more than 1 million people should have their road close and be open only to bus, delivery trucks? and make it illegal for anyone to drive car alone in their city?

  1. Yeah, that makes perfect sense

Let's designe cities for decades based on the principal of a person being able to drive around, and then take that away so that no one can get anywhere without the cities spending hundreds of millions on re-vamping public transportation - great idea.

  2. For the most part yes.

Reduce the large amount of unnecessary traffic would make big differences not only for reduced smog but better flow for transit.

unfortunately this would require a major infux of money from gov't to create integrated transit systems that include bus, LRT, subways and trains.  Large parking facilities required for the commuters etc.

don't see that happening anytime soon.  London tolled the inner city which reduced traffic quite a bit but they already had a great transit system that only required some modifications to accomodate the increased traffic.  North America requires major investment into public transit to be able to ban the car.

  3. They should close them to people on bicycles. These nuts are a road hazard.

If you do what you propose, all you will do is pi*s people off and the law will be changed. Charging a toll to drive into a city means only the rich will be driving in the city. People will sue the city for access since general taxpayer dollars built the roads and now a discriminatory action has taken place. These laws will be thrown out in the USA as soon as someone is stupid enough to try it.

  4. that would be one way to try and reduce global warming, but what its only going to do is end up pissing everyone off because of not being able to drive their own cars and most people dont like to take public transportation.  plus, that would have taxes increase beacause of the expenses of new public transporation.  and then what would be the purpose of the car? to be able to drive around freely. i mean it would be better if we would just have environment-friendly cars.. like hybrids and other eletric cars that dont rely on gas so much.
