  1. In golf the initial target is merely a direction guide, where you intend to hit the ball if the shot is properly executed. Aim for the top of the tree if you like but the target is the tree. The ball goes no further where on the target you look. The velocity of the swing  and contact on the face of the club will determine the distance the ball travels.

  2. umm........ ya

  3. what are you talking about?

  4. actually no......The target is only a reference point.....The ball strike and clubhead speed combined with loft of the club are what regulate distance.

  5. I'm not sure what you mean.  I presume you are talking about imagining or picturing the shot.

If so - then as far as distance is concerned - for my little mind I think I would go the air route.  Nothing nicer than actually achieving what you have visualized.

  6. huh????????

  7. Where your aiming has nothing to do with how far the ball goes.  That is totally dependent on how well you strike the ball.  Depending on how well you play should determine if you aim at a spot in the air or on the ground.

  8. Maximum Range is achieved by aiming at a 45 degree angle above the ground if you're on flat land, no wind. The idea is to maximize Time * Forward Velocity.  The amount of time the ball will be in the air depends on your vertical velocity and any changes in the height of the land as the ball travels foreward.

Think of it this way. The ball is like a car thats going to keep traveling forward at a set velocity until the ball hits the ground. If you throw the ball at the sky, you are decreasing the velocity that that car travels at, but increasing the amount of time that it spends going forward.

  9. If it were me, I will have a hard time picking out a target in the air.  The ball flight in the air is DIRECTLY related to how you hit the ball and your swing, so if you can mentally see a ball flight path AND can adjust your swing accordingly, thus produce a longer distance hit, more power to you.

  10. That is a mental trick to aiming it doesn't actually change the velocity or mass of the tennis ball so it could or it could not depending on the person.

  11. Not necessarily. If you have been playing golf for years and know all the aspects of how to get the ball from point A to point B, then aiming higher may make the ball drop at a shorter distance.

    That and windspeed/direction
