Do you think mayweather was ducking margarito?... I think not?

I am a mexican and was glad to see the pounding of the puerto rican cotto. I heard a lot that mayweather refused to fight him for $8 million. First of all, if you think about it, why would he fight someone for $8 million when he's fighting people for $20 and $30 million? And second, if you saw the cotto-margarito fight, mayweather would do exactly what cotto did for the first 6 round but for the whole fight. For the first 6 rounds cotto clearly outboxed margarito. Mayweather has more endurance and is 3 times as fast as cotto. If the bout would have happened I would have to take mayweather in a UD.... your thought?

  1. PLAIN AND SIMPLE NOOOOOOOO

many of you dont know what your talkin bout except for True L and made another (cant remember)anyway heres something from 1 of my other answers

Note: Arum has worked the Mayweather-dodged-my-fighters angle incessantly, and brilliantly, and the tale that Mayweather declined $8 million to fight Margarito is absolutely true.

It just fails to note that Mayweather then took $8 million from a different promoter, Dan Goossen, for a fight against linear welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir, who was the hottest fighter in the sport at the time, and would have been a shoo-in for 2006 Fighter of the Year if the voting had been held the day before Mayweather dominated him for 12 rounds.

It also fails to note that Mayweather had paid Arum a $750,000 buyout to break their exclusive contract and did not want to fight for his former promoter again, and that Arum's bigger interest in the Mayweather-Margarito proposal was to secure an opponent worthy of a $2 million payday for Margarito, who was growing impatient with the promoter for not delivering major events

oh and to gambino what you said(Notice that there are only 4 true welterweights)and your list dosent make much sence

her are just a few examples

    2002-12-07 134 Jose Luis Castillo 135 46-5-1

    2002-04-20 134 Jose Luis Castillo 134½ 45-4-1

    2001-11-10 129½ Jesus Chavez 129½ 35-1-0

    2001-05-26 130 Carlos Hernandez 128½ 33-2-1

    2001-01-20 130 Diego Corrales 130 33-0-0

he was featherweight and lightweight then why would he fight welterweight. marggo has been a welterweight since 1994 where is his list why is he just gettin noticed why hasnt he moved up yet. mater of fact pull up all of the boxers you mentioned records side by side and i bet floyd has the best body of work.and im not taking nothing from marggo but he is just not on floyds level. learn boxing first before you open your mouth or bend your fingers

    GET IT    GOT IT    GOOD

  2. Just face it, he's ducking Margarito... and De La Hoya ( even though Jr. one the first fight )..

I can see why people believe he isn't ducking Margarito, because he's not going to get paid as much, but take this

    example:

here he has a chance to fight De La Hoya again for $20mill, but Jr. retires..What is he doing to DLH? DUCKING.

So don't give that BS that it has to do with the money.

  3. whos mayweather?

  4. Well no one is arguing that floyd is not a better faster fighter. but floyd ducked cotto, frietas, kotza tzu, and a couple of other fighters that he should have just easily beaten and just saved us the worry of discussion. floyd only made money when golden boy promotions was involved in some way and it was a PPV fight.  i think mayweather was worried more about keeping jis mystique of being undefeated and less of beating the top quality fighters out there.

  5. I'd have to agree with you on that one, and even think that Magarito wouldn't have as much a look into PBF as he did against Cotto. If the fight happened or happens, as I think it could next year, Mayweather would win it by pot shooting him, generally outworking him due to speed and also out smarting him with different defensive angles.

As for ducking him, I say not! Why would you take a Toyota if you are offered a Porsche? Bob Arum looked very sad after the fight and he only made mention of Mayweather ducking Mags because he wanted people to believe that he actualy believed in Mags in the first place, and we all know that's impossible. And by the way, he's a promoter, if he can lure PBF out of retirement and fight Mags, he makes plenty of dollar with that as well.

  6. To be honest after watching the fight Saturday i could not imagine the "pretty boy " getting in the ring with either one of them with out getting really hurt, but he will & at the end of the fight will look like he has not even been in a boxing match.that is what he does & he is the best in the world at it .

It winds people up but he has been doing it all his life lol, he had Hatton running after him like a amateur he will do the same to these two

  7. Yeah Mayweather cant be beat! But he did the right thing stopping while his on top and with a perfect record.. It would def. be a UD if they were to fight though to Money.

  8. Back when he was offered the Margarito fight for 8 million that was the LARGEST paycheck he had been offered up to that point.  He backed out for 6 Million!! to fight Baldomir.

He didnt receive the 20 million or so till he started fighting Oscar, and Hatton, and from FAKE wrestling. 3 times faster than Cotto!? you are soo dum!!! I bet you just started watching boxing

** ok so how is Mayweather 3 times faster than Cotto yet Cotto was able to keep up with the likes of Judah (who is probably a bit faster than Mayweather)  and Mosley who is around the same speed. The reason Mayweather was able to keep off some good heavy punchers was because he made them respect his power, but Margarito has a really good chin on him so that spells trouble for Mayweather. (He is a lot bigger, and stronger than the small Hatton, baldomir, or even de la hoya)

Do you know what slugging means? Because Cotto was NOT doing that! He was countering, punching and moving most of the fight! and he actually did a very good job! except Margarito was not going to be denied.

  9. You have your information wrong. When he was offered to fight Margarito, he was offered 8 million and that was the highest that he was offered back then. This was before the De La Hoya and Hatton fights. He turned it down and instead fought Baldomir for less money. ( I think it was around 4 million). I thought Mayweather was all about the Money. Just to add, Mayweather is faster than Cotto, but not by as much as you said.

  10. It's funny how the Margo fans lie about the money issued. It's on USAboxing web site. Mayweathe made 8min for fighting Baldmir. You can look it up yourself on the web, unless you want me to post the whole thing on here. Baldmir had the top WW belt he won fron Judah. That's why PBF chose him over Margo. Margo is a good hard nose fighter and all props go's to him. I think this is a out cry from the Cotto fans. I bet some of you on this answer are Cotto fans and was supporting Cotto on other answers to. Now that Cotto got the h**l beat out of him, has a L in his resume and mad at PBF. Using Margo for a way out. You know who you are. Funny how they jump back in forward. Band wagon fans. Before Cotto lost, they couldn't defend Margo because of his 5L. On Cotto band wagon because he didn't have a L. Cotto come out looking like one of those guys on the Fat Albert show, ready to run back to Margo defense. I bet some of you was calling Margo a bum before he fought Cotto.

  11. I know all the "Money" Mayweather fans are taken aback when people say he ducked Margarito. Get over it. He ducked him and you know it. How do you justify him fighting Zab Judah and Carlos Baldomir instead of him? $8 million  wasn't enough. Please. He just wanted to keep his perfect record intact. He saw those 1675 punches he threw against Josh Clottey, and wanted nothing to do with him. Not something you would expect from someone who thought he didn't get the respect he deserved.

  12. 2007-12-08 147 Ricky Hatton 145 43-0-0

    2007-05-05 150 Oscar De La Hoya 154 38-4-0

    2006-11-04 146 Carlos Manuel Baldomir 147 43-9-6

    2006-04-08 146 Zab Judah 145½ 34-3-0

    2005-11-19 147 Sharmba Mitchell 145¼ 56-4-0

    2005-06-25 139 Arturo Gatti 140 39-6-0

    2005-01-22 139 Henry Bruseles 138¾ 21-2-1

    2004-05-22 140 DeMarcus Corley 140 28-2-1

    2003-11-01 135 Phillip N'dou 134½ 31-1-0

    2003-04-19 134 Victoriano Sosa 134 35-2-2

    2002-12-07 134 Jose Luis Castillo 135 46-5-1

    2002-04-20 134 Jose Luis Castillo 134½ 45-4-1

    2001-11-10 129½ Jesus Chavez 129½ 35-1-0

    2001-05-26 130 Carlos Hernandez 128½ 33-2-1

    2001-01-20 130 Diego Corrales 130 33-0-0

Here is a list of the best opponents PBF has fought.  Notice that there are only 4 true welterweights.  Hatton does not count because after the fight he went back to the 140 division.  So my question is this with Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito, Paul Williams, Kermit Cintron and Shane Mosley as the top welterweights why would he instead choose to fight Mitchell, Judah, Baldomir and De La Hoya? Look at his nickname "money." You are either blind or stupid not to notice this.  He wants to claim fame as "the best" yet he didn't step up to the plate.  Beating DLH was a joke(DLH was what 34 and past his prime).  He made a career picking and choosing his opponents and that my friends is the reason why he decided to hang up the gloves.  He knew that by beating DLH in a rematch he would be forced to fight the winner of cotto-margarito and he didn't want any part of it.

He aint a champ in my book, hes more like a chump.  Looks like he is running a marathon rather than boxing.

  13. YES, insted of fighting tnoy for career high pay 8mil he fought zab for 6mil who had lost to baldmomir in his  last fight.  he ducekd tony period. tonys body shots would slow floyd down in the later rounds just like he did to cotto

edit- oh he will come back to boxing but not to fight tony

  14. 1. Floyd Mayweather, Jr. would have schooled Antonio Margarito : As tough and vicious Antonio Margarito is, I think Pretty Boy Floyd would school Margarito and cruise to a unanimous decision victory. After seeing Margarito eat all the hard shots from Miguel Cotto like they were nothing, I cannot in good faith predict a knockout victory for Money, but Mayweather is a master, and the ultimate competitor, and I think he would teach Margarito a lesson of hard knocks.

    2. Floyd Mayweather, Jr.'s approach to boxing and life is simple : Use your brain, pick your battles, and apply an economy of violent and effective force to achieve your objective. Mayweather is a dancer in the ring, being able to dictate the rhythm of the fight with his feet and timing alone. The stability provided by his feet provides him with mental poise and he is able to pick his shots. He feints low, hits high, walks back and forth with his punches, and would even disengage for a moment to get himself better position. He attacks and defends high and low, back and forth, and from 360 degrees. He barely gets hit - even when he's infighting.

Antonio Margarito is the now the undisputed welterweight king in boxing today - but Mayweather was simply on another level. I'm not sure if Margarito even has a power advantage - in the practical sense. Mayweather has deceptive power - though not the one-punch, knock-you-unconscious kind - and the technique to get the punches he wants. Consider the fact that Money has made a career out of pounding guys until they could no longer defend themselves or until they had to retire.

    3. Mayweather turned down $8 million to fight Margarito because it wasn't worth the mental drain of preparing : I'm going to say it clearly : Mayweather was not scared of Margarito! People talk like fighting is just training and showing up for the fight and getting paid, but they discount the psychological drain. If things were so simple, then you wouldn't have head-butting with your boss or supervisor at work - and it's the same for these guys. And if you're at the top and in the constant spotlight, then it's that much tougher.

Floyd Mayweather is bored of boxing. Even if you're fit and healthy, the grind takes a toll - and Money's been boxing his whole life. For Mayweather, $8 million was not worth it. He was paid $30 million to fight Oscar De La Hoya and $20 million to fight Ricky Hatton, so from Money's perspective, being offered $8 million to put up with some bull was an insult. He's got enough money, and if he's taking a paycut, he might as well get some priceless rest and relaxation. It was certainly important enough to Mayweather that he passed up a chance to make $20 million to fight Oscar again.

Bottomline : Floyd Mayweather, Jr. would have been too good for Antonio Margarito - or anyone else in the welterweight division. Mayweather has achieved a mastery of the sweet science that is unrivaled in his generation. If you want a good comparison of his dominance and skill level, think Michael Jordan. Jordan was so good that he won six rings and became GOAT, and also was scoring 50 points in a game at 40-years old - with terrible knees.

It came to the point that Mayweather was winning so easily and making so much money that his greatest challenger was himself. Since they haven't invented human clones yet, he had to retire.

P.S. I have nothing against Margarito, but in fact, admire his heart and talent.

  15. To Ace get your facts straight- Floyd got paid at least 9 or 10 million to fight Judah- which is more than Arum's 8 million for Margarito!.................................

Boxing is a business, and if I'm a fighter a have to take the fights that will make me the most money, and the fights that will get me the most respect, so lets face it at that time Zab was still a better fighter than Margo!......

And don't worry if you know boxing you know that Floyd will come out of retirement and embarrass Margarito...............................
