  1. It's great now, why would you have to make it better?

  2. No, a single engine fighter is always lighter and therefor more maneuverable. The Navy likes twin engines because they fly out at sea but for fighting ability, a single engine will always be more effective than a heavy twin.

  3. That's not a modification, that's a total redesign. If you can increase the thrust to weight ratio without disrupting the balance of the aircraft, you will increase it's performance. So it all depends on the engines. The F-16 has a very powerful single engine already, more powerful than the engines in the F-15 and F-18, but with only one, the total power is still less. While the F-16 is an excellent aircraft, it's important to keep in mind that it was developed as a low cost supplement to the F-15, so it's less capable in order to save money. If you modify the design to improve the performance, you increase the cost, so you could just buy more F-15's instead.

  4. No, because if you want a twin engine fighter, there is the F-15.

  5. Depends on what engines are used, who makes the modifications, etc.

  6. With changes over the years on the engine, the F16 isn't the lawn dart that it used to be.

  7. No. The aircraft's maneuverability and handling characteristics would be ruined by 2 engines. The aircraft it created for one. Also, in most airplanes, the roll rate would suffer, and the roll rate is important for a "dogfighting" aircraft like the F-16.

  8. f22 it like the same thing without the ability to hover

  9. No.  The design of the aircraft is so painfully exacting that such a radical modification could hardly be pulled off without upsetting what makes it so very special; its remarkable handling characteristics and maneuverability.

That's a tough enough bird that has done its job well over its life span.
