I have worked for two different LE agencies. I'd guess, from talking to them, that about 1/3 of them have in the past. Most of them are honest about it when asked.

There is so much use of powerful smoked drugs in our modern world, that most everyone has gotten "secondhand dosed" with enough of multiple kinds of hooch by now, that not only a disturbing percentage of modern sensitive drug tests have falsely ruined lives, but that few can say they've never had a buzz. Only a VERY small percentage of police officers have smoked cannabis or used drugs prior to becoming an officer.

Did, as in past tense?  Probably.  Do, as in present tense? Probably.  But most cops' drug of choice comes in a bottle.

Depends on the cop, I've personally seen NYPD officers smoking weed in queens and brooklyn, as well as candid conversations about stuff they've done on the job. I also was stopped and questioned on the street by a cop who was wasted out of his mind on alcohol so after they finish the academy I would say a huge amount do partake in some sort of drug or heavy drinking, but not most. Most are as.$.holes naturally.

As for soon before and during the academy I would doubt it since they are drug tested.

Shoot, I know cops who STILL do.  They do a bust and take a bit for their own stash.  We just had a cop busted here in town for DUI in the cruiser!

What do you mean "before"? A rather significant, though small, percentage of police officers use drugs throughout their careers, even on the job.

I've never done drugs in my life.  I know Officers that have in the past but that's between them and their employer.

It really depends on what part of the country you are in and what kind of police department you work for. I live in a very liberal major city where everyone and their mother has tried pot at least once, so no one here gets disqualified for using weed as long as it was not habitually, it was years in your past, your criminal background is squeaky clean otherwise, and you did not sell it or grow it.  

I once even met a deputy chief of a major university police force that said  she liked " a little life experience" in the past of her recruit's drug experimentation.

No because they have to take multiple drug tests and you become addicted to drugs so easily that they would have been expelled from the Police Academy.
