Do you think my argument is good(Chinese gymnastics team)?

This is an argument I wrote for the Chinese Gymnastics Team being under aged controversy.

Do you think I have a good, well written argument? Also, what are your opinions on the matter of the US accusing them of being under aged?

I'd like to make a point.

First, this former U.S coach (I think he was a former coach right?) claims that they are under aged. Well....he ends up looking like a moron whether he is right or wrong.

I believe he is wrong. Gymnasts are known for being small in height and weight and looking young, and considering they are Chinese, who are typically small in stature and youthful looking, he shouldn't be so critical of them. Probably the youngest looking person I've seen on that team is Linlin Deng who is 4'5'' and 16 years old, but come on, you can tell by her facial expression she is not under aged. Someone can have the body of a 12 year old, but by looking at their facial expression you can pretty much tell their age, and all the girls on that team look over 16 to me.

Plus: the girls on Japan's team look roughly the same age as China's team, and is anyone saying that Japan is cheating? No! Why? Because they didn't win first place, and are therefore nothing to be criticized.

And if he is right about them being under aged, then this just makes the US team look awful for being beaten by 12 year olds.

Yesterday on yahoo I read an article about how a US gymnastics coordinator (or something like that) who is also the above mentioned man’s wife (I think?) says that the Chinese judges put a delay on the performance of one of the US' team girls which caused her to loose focus and fall flat on her back, literally. I'm sorry, but if a small delay in the program can affect your performance to that level, then your not a very good gymnast. So that whole comment further made the US look like sore losers.

They should stop complaining and show China some respect. The gymnasts did an amazing job and deserve first place. And anyone who argues with that is crazy. All I have left to say about the US’ team people that are complaining is that they lost, they should deal with it. If you can't lose with dignity, then you shouldn't compete.

  1. I think it's a well written report, although weak in some areas, it's still a well written and well rounded argument. : )

  2. Regardless of whether the gymnasts were 16 or not, the IOC has allowed them to compete.  And aside from the controversey,  people can't deny that the skills and performance of the Chinese team were a lot better than the American team.

Your arguement is a bit too defensive (concerning the age part)

  3. good article.

  4. It's okay. It really isn't a good idea to p**s off your potential reader by calling them 'sore losers' and 'crazy'. But it's your style.

Also, it can be under aged, but personally, I believe under age sounds better. Again, your choice.

Your argument about facial expressions is a bit unrealistic. There's no factual evidence. Otherwise, it's okay.

The Olympics always bring controversy and tempers, don't you think? :D

  5. You'll get NO argument from ME- that the Chinese Gymnasts deserved their Gold Medal for their Event- because they certainly DID! -They were WONDERFUL to watch, and were definitely better than their American Counterparts... But as a Person with a critical "Eye for Detail", I have to say- I WAS suspicious that at LEAST One of those Chinese Athletes- was Underage (& that was even WITH the considerations that You mentioned..). And seeing as how the Chinese have already PROVEN themselves to play alittle "fast & loose with Appearances" (such as in the Opening Ceremony with the little girl who lip synced another girls song), I would NOT be surprised- if it eventually "comes out" -that the Suspicions are well-founded in Reality.

  6. Chinese Dog and Pony Show.

Started with lip sync Chinese national song.

Probably end up 'ejecting' and stripping gold medalists, foreign gold medalists that is.

  7. The argument is good, although lacking in facts to support it. It also has a very informal tone, so you may have to change that.

  8. with the coming of world war 3 i was happy that Russia pissed China off a little by invading Georgia during the Olympics, i figured, cool, China will side with the USA.  But NNNOOOO  now we have to accuse them of cheating.  WTF

    yes your essay seems fine

and congratulations on what 4 gold medals for the gymnast, great work
