I am married and don't live with my parents I'm 23 and my dad is only 46.When i see them he tells me the same stories over and over and the same joke. He also gets angry fast and it doesn't take much. I called them yesterday bc my grandpa is in the hospital. I asked what is wrong. My dad said he was getting his legs amputated. I was very worried and i then talked to my mom and she said my grandpa is actually getting a knee replaced. which is the truth. My dad is also acting very annoying like at a restaurant he was talking very loud about a half naked women drug addict with sores he saw outside, this story ive heard ALOT. all this while we were eating and I know someone had to hear. I am embarrassed to introduce him to people.

  2. It could be a number of issues. The best thing is to talk with your doctor, or to your local mental health association. They should be able to provide you with some information regarding this issue.

  3. There may be no disorder; he just might be boorish and obnoxious.

  4. Sounds like early alzheimer's...which is very debilitating, and he could very well die from this horrible disease. Talk with your mom and see if she can get him to see a doc, and hopefully with medications can help slow down the progression of this disease. Best of luck!

  5. LOL!! Sorry hun but I got a chuckle out of this. I know you are trly worried about your pops...he just has a strong willed personality..I bet he says whats on his mind no matter what it is...he is one of those types...it could be good and bad at the same time....Just love him...its your pops! : )

  6. I work at a nursing home and see dementia and alzheimers on a daily basis.  I noticed the same symptoms in my mother a few years ago.  The repeating stories, quick temper etc.  I told my stepdad to take her to the doctor and they ran some tests and determined she has dementia.  There is no true way to diagnose alzheimers right now, but I would suggest your mom get him to the doctor for a check up.  There are some medications out there now, although so far they aren't that effective, but they might delay some of the symptoms your father is showing.  It's best to find out now, it could also be a medical problem.  Best to find out as soon as possible.  Good luck to you and your family.
