Question:

Do you think my daughter might be ready for a toddler bed??

My daughter is 15 months now. She does pretty good at telling us she is ready for bed. Whenever I put her in her crib, she would cry for a few minutes though. But when I put her in our bed (pillows surounding her, and without us in it) She will sit there happily and fall asleep on her own time.

  1. it sounds like she's ready but if your still scared if she might fall of teh bed you can buy those bars don't know what they are called but they will help you from the baby rolling out

  2. i put my 3 y.o into a twin size bed at 18 months.  what we did for her is had the bed set up in her room for 2 or 3 weeks-maybe even 4.so she could see it, we could talk about it, practice gettin up on it, pretend to nap etc.  for a few days i told her we would have afternoon nap in it on the upcoming weekend.  i had planned on just doing naps, then crib at night, but she slept in it fine and wanted to sleep in it at night as well-so she stayed there ever since.  we left the crib set up for another couple weeks before we took it down-she never asked to go back or tried to climb into it at all.  we also left door open and put up a safety gate.  i had a crib rail but never used it ( never used it with my 2 older children either.)

i set up a few pillows on the floor for cushioning if she fell out but she never did.

4 days ago we set up a twin matching bed for our 17 1/2 month old daughter.  she never had the same experience but she was used to her big sister's bed and could get up and down from it with ease.

she hasnt fallen out yet, and has been sleeping in it fine. (although for afternoon naps- she plays for quite a while before getting herself back in and falling alseep-but both girls are in the same room so i expected that.)

it sounds like she should be ready- and you have all the bases covered. it would probably be safer than in your bed. i never used a toddler bed for any of my kids- straight into a twin  size.

when my 3 y.o. was younger she used to like to pull all the clothes  out of every single dresser drawer in her room- almost every day. i was so glad when that stopped but i am going there again..ugh...oh well

    good luck to you

  3. I would wait till she is at least 2. she might wander out of bed on you at night. She is too young in my opinion.

Sounds like you have the basics covered then. The only advice I would give is to pick a bed that is low to the ground. I made my children's toddler bed. You could even put a twin mattress on the floor.

  4. well i have a little girl and i put her into a toddler bed at 15 months i say go for it if you think she is ready do it always good to have them moved into a bed as soon as there ready x

  5. I moved my daughter into a toddler bed at about that age. a safety rail is a good idea so she doesnt fall out. Sounds to me like she's telling you she's ready.

  6. I say too young only because she can get up without you knowing. When she is alone she will be bored and more apt to get into things out of sheer curiosity. At this age its not about being well-behaved. Its about understanding danger and consequesnces and they just don't at this age. Its not worth the risk. Think of what she gets in even when you are awake. Now think of all the things she can get into with you asleep. My experience has been until at least 2 yo. They will get into things you can not even imagine even then! LOL
