Question:

Do you think my parrot is sick?

I went to a 2 days trip and my parrot was at home. He's always free in the house so I put some food in certain places for him and was sure he was going to be ok.

I came back yesterday and since then, he's been only sleeping, with his feathers fluffed, his beak in his wing. He was always very cheerful, used to fly all over the place and scream. The only positive thing I've noticed is that he still eats when I give him food and also drinks and cleans himself.

Should I be worried or is he going to be ok? I've googled but found no answer.

  1. you should take the parrott to the vet..

maybe its nothin but a vet should see him.

  2. He certainly doesn't sound well, please take him to a vet.

I had a bird once that I loved to bits and he passed away.

They cant tell us what is wrong :(

    good luck xoxoxox

  3. I wouldnt be too worried, as he is still eating, drinking and cleaning. But i would still take him to the vet. He could have gotten into something when you were gone.

  4. I'd give him a couple of days, he may have just been terribly stressted and sleepless without you being home.  If his symptoms seem to worsen, or he stops eating or drinking or going to the bathroom, i would suggest a vet visit very promptly.

You may find he's just exhausted, and needs some extra shut eye.

Pet him and play with him and re-assure him that you are home.  Next time you might want to leave him with some form of company, maybe a friend to house-sit for you.

P.S. Only you can see your bird at this moment, if you're seriously concerned, take the baby to the vet regardless of what everyone says, after all, pets depend on us to make the right decisions for them, like children.

  5. Prey animals like birds do not like to show it when they are sick so it is important for us as owners to look out for signs like this.

If your bird is acting strange in any way I would say it is cause to visit the vet just in case- it certainly sounds like he is sick.

Who knows what he could have done in the 2 days he was free in the house- perhaps he ate something he shouldn't have.

Has he had problems pooing? or does he feel thinner than usual? these are also signs that something is wrong. good luck.

its better to be safe than sorry.

  6. It might be that hes just tired since you were gone.  but the fact that he has his feathers fluffed might be a sign that he could be sick.  I would take him to a vet just in case.
