Whenever I get those stupid credit card offers in the mail, or any junk mail with a return envelope, I stuff some misc paper in it (nothing with my name or address) and send it back to the credit card company because someone told me they pay 60 cents or something for the first class return envelope, so it costs them money to get it back. I don't apply for any of these credit cards, but the point is to get them to quit sending unsolicited offers and also to keep mail moving through the postal system, which maybe keeps rates down for the rest of us. It doesn't decrease the amount of junk mail I personally get because I don't put anything in there with my name on it, nor do I call to ask them to take me off their mailing list, but hopefully if enough people did this it would send a message and waste a ton of the credit companies' money.
