Question:

Do you think nice, conscientious, courteous, ethical, proactive, people with integrity are mostly miserable?

People who follow all laws, rules, regulations, ethics, morals, and etiquette,

People who are courteous, helpful, thoughtful, and basically follow the golden rule philosophy,

People who everyone says is the nicest one in the group. A good humanitarian, a good samaritan, etc , etc, etc.

Aren't they most likely all miserable on the inside, because if they see anyone else who doesn't respond or act or behave like THEY do, they feel insulted or appalled. They go through live being walked upon or even stomped on by others?

  1. not at all

I find critical mean people to be unhappy

It is a paradox, the way to joy sometimes seems like you give up joy.  This might mean being a parent,  or helping someone,  or following God.

  2. No -- if that were true, then they are phony and living a lie.

  3. I've always tried to be happy all of the time and be friendly as thats what I want people to be like for me. There are too many evil people in the world and I sure as h**l don't want to be one of them. I have been feeling down recently as I moved countries and had to start a new school and make new friends and everything. It went really well but I went to the careers advisor and broke down for no apparent reason and she said she thinks I'm depressed. I don't feel it though =/ I get upset and sometimes break down for no reason and get stressed easily but I seriously don't think I'm depressed!

  4. No, not at all. I used to be very selfish, and didn't care if my laziness and sloppiness affected other people. Now that I keep others in mind, I'm a lot happier. Have you ever done something nice for someone else? It makes you feel good knowing you did something nice, and it's really not a lot of effort most of the time. Totally worth it.

However, I do *not* follow all the rules - I will say that. I hate rules and regulations - I fit your second sentence much better. I don't follow every rule of etiquette, I just try to be as polite and friendly to people as I can, because that's what I like to see people doing for me.

I think another important thing is if I see anyone who doesn't act like I do, I'm *not* offended. If I say hello to someone on the street and they don't answer me, or someone acts crabby to me in the grocery store, I go, "huh," and then don't think of it again. I think this has a lot to do with my happiness as well. So many people are so concerned with what other people are doing - I just don't get it. I see so many questions here whining about someone who was rude to them, and yeah, it might make you feel a little uncomfortable, but dwelling on it really isn't going to change these people, so why bum yourself out thinking about it?

I'm curious as to what *you're* like, now.

  5. No, self-centered people tend to be the most unhappy people I've ever seen.

  6. No they are not miserable, it is their world and how they want it to be.  Everyone lives their life their own way and that is the way it should be.

  7. LOL.....No because I'm one of those people & I can honestly say I'm pretty happy with my life.

I feel sorry for people who have a need to break laws, hurt peoples feelings, and give nothing back to their community.

    But hey....that's just me.

  8. No I believe they are happy to be helpful and we all have to follow certain rules of society but nobody should be a follower or a prisoner to every single rule and we can be a bit casual at times and not always behave as if we were Royalty. Even Royalty let their guard down when they are not under observation . If all nice people did indeed follow all regulations. Never went against a small rule and break the etiquette rule a little bit from time to time and just be oneself then they would indeed be miserable but humans let themselves not become such robots thankfully. I believe one can and should be courteous and helpful and thoughtful and follow important rules and if one does all that.. that's enough. We also have to be allowed to be human. There is no such perfect person but if they were then they would be miserable. xxThen their whole life would be made up of rules but a human being thinks about himself or herself as well so they won't let that happen.

  9. It depends on the person in general and who they are surrounded by.  One must remember that you can't lump people in the same category of feelings.
