No, I think of them as young butterflies.  I have deliberately grown plants in my yard that caterpillars like to eat.

yes ....they eat up all the beautiful leaves in your garden......

no...they become beautiful butterflies and moths which are important for plant pollination while the silk worms (caterpillars) provide silk for garments.....

The ones that eat plants that I don't want eaten or that come in very large numbers(tent Caterpillars) are pests.  The rest are going to be beautiful butterflies and moths.
