  1. No. I'd happily pay 30p per litre of petrol. I definitely resent the government taking 70p in tax though.......

Don't worry, I'm sure that water is next on their tax list.

  2. However, It's the tax on the gas that makes it so expensive. And bottled water is the biggest ripoff ever.

  3. not compared to a shrimp dinner and a cup of coffee.

  4. I suspect that it is relatively expensive for it is a diminishing natural resource that has to be transported over considerable distances. However car fuel is exorbitantly expensive in the UK because of the unfair tax it attracts - VAT at 17.5% and

50p a litre - that's just greed by the government in the knowledge that demand is inelastic. In rural areas the cost of fuel has gone through the roof.

  5. When oil companies stop reporting profits in the Billions of dollars I will believe that oil is affordable. I know that oil companies are in business to make a profit but where does profit end and gouging begin. Supply and demand is bullshi t. The oil companies control how fast they pump the oil out of the ground. The oil companies control how much to refine and release for sale to the public.

  6. no i dont but because it is a valuable sauce for our uses and thats a alot of uses we use it for, the value goes up and at the mo people think it is runnig out so they are buying it left right and centre so to control it the bigwigs out the price up, which causes a knock on then the shops prices go up and so on

same as everything its all cheap but if they think we need ity they price it up

  7. And that's why you don't bathe or wash your car in bottled water...

  8. I'm shocked at the price of oil. And I'm thankful my car runs on gasoline. If it ran on oil I'd be broke!

  9. The price of oil is RELATIVELY expensive, that is why there is so much commotion nowadays.

Bottled water is a deceptive comparison:  tap water is $.0003 per gallon and bottled water is a luxury item.  Nobody HAS TO fill a tank with 20 gallons of bottled water just to get to work each week.

And no country's economy relies on cheap bottled water, as the US economy relied on cheap oil for more than 20 years.

The rise in oil prices happened very quickly, too.  In less than four years, the price of oil quintupled and the price of automotive gasoline tripled.  This wreaks havoc on the citizens' expendable income and hurts retail markets.

  10. Gas was about 24 cent a gallon, oil 25 cent a quart in 1966 when I bought my first car. I made $1.10 an hour.

  11. Oil is cheap.

It's the sodding thieving government who takes the cream and the sugar.

  12. Did you that oil is running out? Why do you think that Bush ET AL invaded Iraq? When an item is rare it's price rises. look at gold. It's the way the works. Best thing to do is get a bike. At least you will save a few pound and lose some at the same time!

  13. true, but considering where it came from (5 cents a gallon or so), yes it is expensive.  and it's only gonna get more expensive.  cheap oil is running out my friends.  and when it does, all h**l will break loose.

  14. not really

  15. The last time i spoke to Popeye, he informed me that Olive Oyle, was VERY expensive. Have a nice day.

  16. Yes, especially extra virgin olive oil, which is the only kind I use.

  17. Rent a comedy film called "Water" from back in the '80s....an "evil" oil company was drilling for oil when they discovered pure spring water and that exact fact was brought to the attention of the CEO, who was going to shut down the well, as he said, "Boys, looks like we're in the water business"...
