Light some candles.

Burn some incense.

Pour a bath.

Play some enchanting music(such as Loreena McKennitt)

Just feel that "whoah! This is different!" without the religious and spiritual part of it?

I honestly think people should find ways to experience the "divine" another words that unexplainable force that sends shivers all down your back...through secular non-theist means.

It seems if you take out the gods it's still just as fun. It'd be as if Ritual was simply theater. Sounds kind of fun to me.

  1. Sure, do it all the time. I think its also great for your mental health so long as you can acknowledge where reality and imagination meet and that self/inner created emotional states can for some people sometimes be easily confused with some sort of state being created outside yourself in some situations. I think its sometimes about really listening and communicating more deeply with yourself as well as reaching deeper relaxation states which is healthy. I read a book that explores the benefits of some rituals and transcendent experiencs sans the belief they are literal or supernatural. The author also believes that atheists can seek these and gain benefit if they wish. It was called "Secular Wholeness" by David Cortesi.

  2. Meditation

    no gods involved

  3. Your spiritual modality can be achieved in many different places as a secular happening. When I first experienced the Grand Canyon, I had achieved your hypnotic modality.. You can feel the same shivers down your back spirituality at a sports match.

    Later addition.

    I was agreeing with you.

  4. NO, IT'S CALLED HAVING A RELAXING BATH! IF YOU WANT TO BE A XTIAN SO BAD JUST GO BE ONE, BUT STOP TRYING TO CONVERT THE REST OF US, THANKS MUCH. I CAN'T BE SPIRITUAL BECAUSE THERE ARE NO SPIRITS! NO LEPRECHAUNS OR HOBGOBLINS EITHER. PEOPLE USED TO SAY THOSE THINGS WERE REAL TOO. SAY HELLO TO SHIRLEY MCCLAIN.

<EDIT> I'M SAYING YOU CAN'T BE A "SPIRITUAL ATHEIST".  BELIEF IN MEDITATON, SPIRITS, REINCARANTION, AND SUCH STILL DOESN'T QUALIFY AS RATIONAL THOUGHT. A HOT BATH RELAXES THE MUSCLES AND RELEASES ENDORPHINES TO THE BRAIN. IT'S JUST A CHEMICAL THING. THAT'S LIFE.
