  1. Actually, it really depends on what subject we are discussing here. I have taken online classes, and taught them as well.

If you think about technical matters, then hands-on is going to be better. If you're thinking languages, forget it. It is a terrible way to learn a language. If you are referring to more procedural aspects as in nursing or medicine, it can help, but still does not beat hands-on training.

I think that if the subject matter is theoretical enough, it can help. Personally, I prefer having someone present to answer my questions then and there. I enjoy the interaction with others. Apart from this, it depends which program you are trying to complete through which school. It is important to ensure that you have qualified instructors. Many online courses are being taught by ill-prepared instructors when there is a shortage of instructors in that specific field, as in nursing for instance.

  2. The courses themselves are generally easier because they don't require more than online discussions and essays, but the motivation makes it much more difficult...because you have to be self-disciplined...

  3. Ditto. Online courses are easier since you can do it at your own leisure. In addition, since you'll be on your computer, you could always look up information as you go along. I found myself learning better since I was always able to read multiple online sources, and thus becoming more well-informed about a topic.

The one problem with online courses is the motivation. I found it difficult to watch a video of the course lecture everyday.
