  1. it isnt about Asains ruining our culture wolf whistling is a pain in the **** and it embarasses women so they shudnt do it anyway !!!

  2. I remember my first day at work, I was 15 and terrified.  I just felt so young and shy.  Then I passed a building site just next to the office I was to be working in and got a wolfwhistle and a big smile from a goodlooking lad about 17.   Well, it put a smile on my face, and gave me a bit more confidence to face my first day at work.

But there is a difference in wolfwhistles today.  When I was young it was a sign of appreciation and many girls considered it to be a compliment.  Nowadays a wolfwhistle is often followed by crude comments and is overtly sexual.

As to it being an english tradition, I disagree.  It's common throughout Europe and has been for at least 40 years.

  3. I think it's a bit of a laugh. I'm a bit old to get wolf whistles now, but if I did it wouldn't worry me. What is young with the young of today? Enjoy a wolf whistle while you can. It harms no one.

  4. Wolf-whistling is just another form of male to female communication. Although women say they get embarrassed when they are the whistlee, it is also received as a primitive form of flattery/compliment. No one can take our culture away from us unless we let them and, unfortunately, we are letting outsiders push us around. Then we turn around and blame our Gov., when in fact, it's our own fault because we seem to be losing touch (second guessing) with who we are as a culture and what we represent as a people.

Women have been known to wolf-whistle as well!!

Where has our sense of humor gone?

  5. Others may disagree but I believe it is a way that we can compliment ladies and show our appreciation.  If other cultures want to copy this then good on them.

  6. some people are just too sensitive

It's practically tradition, along with the builders bum

  7. Respect our women. Plain and simple. If u need to express yourself, do not do it at the expense of others.

  8. What the h**l has it got to do with Asians?

Wolf whistling is a long held priviledge of workmen. Usually the uglier they are the more they whistle!

  9. they can only ban so much untill their will be a backlash

  10. whats it got to do with Pakistanis? this practice has been sexist and outdated for years now

  11. I don't think Asians work on building sites really... it's not their scene... if thats what you mean and I don't think it is.

I didn't know wolf whistling was a cultural think, a tradition, even.

The french used to slap your bum or pinch it, that was a known fact... do they still do it?

Mid East men give an inward shreiky type of whistle when they show appreciation.

    Some cultures, tsk tsk tsk...

Some whine like a long drawn meow of a cat..

Everywhere has its own way of showing appreciation, varied, like different languages..

I think its silly political correctness gone absolutely haywire and has nothing to do with any other culture living in UK.

  12. I agree with anon- if I was to give a list of English cultural practices, then wolf-whistling would not be high up on my list!

I suppose the pakistanis are taking away our rights to drink excessive amounts of alcohol and vomit on street corners too, not to say men urinating in public cos they can't hold their beer, plus raising fighting dogs as family pets and... I could go on.

If that is what our culture has become- then the pakistanis are welcome to take it away and drop it in the Indian ocean!!

  13. its horrible and a good thing its to be stopped and the calling out as well I hope

  14. Wolf whistling doesn't bother me, if I get a "whistle"from a builder, I take it as a compliment!!

People need to stop getting "offended" so d**n easily!!!

  15. It isn't exclusively a British thing and it's hardly what you would call a tradition. In Malta wolf whistling is also kinda popular although it seems to be limited to working class males such as builders, truck and bus drivers. If it isn't followed by any sexist or obscene remarks I think it's rather harmless. Ladies are so touchy these days, I can't believe all these silly answers you posted! Why don't you learn to relax and enjoy life instead? Life's too short to let a mere wolf whistle get you down.

  16. how can you make a law against whistling...whatever happened to freedom in this country

  17. The continued feminisation of our society.

  18. When I read this it made me laugh,

it wont kill men not to do it.

  19. If this is your version of what UK culture is, then we really need to ban it.

Most women hate it - they find it embarrassing.  I've never found it flattering to be whistled at by a bunch of leering men, who would of course, never ever do it on their own.

  20. Not sure what your comment below this question implies, but I don't think banning freedom of any expression is ethical or in touch with humanity, sounds very facist.

But wolf whistsles? they are a bit dated and old fashioned in this day and age... guys that still do this appear a little un cool to me lol

  21. It's embaressing to be wolf-wistled at, I'm glad it's been banned by that company. Pakistanis, like any nation of people, have their faults but banning wolf-whistling is nothing to do with them.
