I think like some one yesterday said Dice -k should win Cy because he has a good record and his team has been better than

Cliff Lee but cliff Lee 16-2 2.45 era 128 k, and 22bb 1.08 whip

and i think he is an example like Alex Rodriguez who was with the rangers in 2003 he won the MVP even tough the Rangers dint do good.

I don't think its the players fault if the rest ot the team is doing their part

  1. I think that's more true when it comes to MVP than with Cy Young awards.  The argument people give is "How valuable could he be?  They could have come in last place without him".

Unless somebody has a year so much better than everybody else or there are a lot of candidates then the MVP should come from a team that was in playoff contention.

In 2003 the contenders from the playoff teams (Posada, Ortiz, Ramirez, Nomar, and Tejada) did not put up the numbers that A-Rod did.  It was also a year where 10 different players got a 1st place vote.  A-Rod probably got enough 2nd to 4th place votes which enabled him to win it.

This year Josh Hamilton will probably put up the best numbers but because his team won't be in contention is more likely somebody like Carlos Quentin will be the MVP.

  2. I don't see why should that be a problem. I agree with u completely.

  3. I hope. Josh Hamilton really diserves some kind of an award

  4. I think the CY Young should be given to the best pitcher, regardless of his team's record.

However, I feel that the MVP should be given to a player who's team makes the playoffs.

  5. umm yea...its like what you said with that arod example...wasnt his team in last place that season?...and he still won it...but i tihnk that daisuke should win the cy young =]

  6. I think a player should be considered regardless of their team's performance. If it's been a bad season but the player had a good year, there's no reason to take them out of the race for the awards.

While I don't think a bad season should hinder chances, I do think that a good season can enhance chances for awards.

  7. Cy Young for sure

    Thats just the Best Player

    (Tim Lincecum)

But MVP means MOST VALUED PLAYER

so, that could mean who was the biggest help to your team

That could also mean, Best stats and might help at team once they get traded

    its vague

Its like the 2nd Amendment or something

  8. yeah because they are doing amazing because cliff lee might win the cy young because he derevred it

  9. Of course because if their their part of the deal and trying their best to win then they deserve it because their trying their hardest to get their team to the top

  10. Yes anyone could be considered for either the Cy Young or MVP even if their team is doing poorly.  Here is an example.

The Phillies Ryan Howard become the NL MVP in 2006 & they didn't even make it to the playoffs (2nd in their division & 5 games back in the wild card).  In 2007San Diego's pitcher Jake Peavy won the Cy Young for the NL.

In 2006 Brandon Webb took the Cy Young. Yet the Diamondbacks were 10 games under .500 finishing 4th in their division.

Anyone could be considered because these awards are for the players performance not the teams.  It helps your case a little if you are on a competitive team because your numbers translate better to the people who vote on who gets the awards.
