  1. red wine is so much better then white

  2. No I don't think so, wine drinkers drink wine for the flavor and which suits the food they eat. That's all.

I like both, they go right through me...lol

  3. I would had thought they drank Campari & soda or Pimms

  4. Possibly.  However, red wine also offers more healthful benefits.  Plus, it depends on what you are eating with it.  Most folks wouldn't eat red meat with white wine...so I guess there could be a lot of reasons.

  5. No...I think people drink red wine because they either prefer it to white wine, or they're eating something that goes better with reds.

  6. No... it's because red wine goes meals. It also has far more options to choose from than white wine.

White wine is seen as more of a dessert wine, or a wine that might go with some fish meals.

  7. Who is to say some do or do not?

Some people smoke because they enjoy it, while others look "cool", or so they think!

Red wine is my preference for its superior taste.

  8. White wine is okay, but it gives me heartburn and red doesn't.

  9. Smart, cool posh people drink all kinds of wines because they know that pairing wine perfectly with food it one of the greatest pleasures in life!

But for people who get into wine strictly for snob reasons (I know a few of those), they definitely gravitate towards reds because at the high end of pricing reds can cost so much more than whites. Cult Cabs can easily be released at $400++ a bottle. Pretty unlikely you'd find a Chardonnay released at that price. And if you're showing off - that's what counts. I don't like the people who do that, but I do like them when I get a chance to try their wines ;-)

  10. Im not posh, but i only drink red, in fact I have a glass right now. I prefer the taste, and it has health benefits that other wine doesnt. My teeth dont thank me for it though!

  11. It just tastes better!

  12. Nope I ain't posh and red is as cheap these days as white ...Red wine has become available to the masses in this country for some time now and its all about educating people to try red instead of white as the taste ...should it be an off bottle can be quite of putting .....I love a bottle of red ...its healthier and great out of the fridge on a hot summers day

  13. It comes down to preference or food pairing, really. Posh people drink white wines, too. Some people avoid tannins in red wines, others flock to them for the health benefits in reds.

Like Snackie, most Chardonnays give me heartburn, with some exceptions, like Alamos or Canvas. So I usually choose a red, or other types of white; Voignier, Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio.

But who am I? I'm certainly not posh, just a foodie. But being in hospitality, I know what you mean. Maybe it gives them heartburn too, or they are looking for the health benefits. We serve a lot more red (Cab, Merlot, Pinot Noir )  than white. And at times, they pair their wine with their food. If we are serving beef, then the wine of choice that night is red. If we are serving mahi mahi, then most will drink white. I don't drink red wine with white fish because the flavor combination is off the charts, as do almost everyone else; posh or not.

Our wealthier clientele are fortunate to experience the finer things in life: food, wine, hotels, destinations, and are rather selective about what they put in their mouths.

  14. No.I saw a homeless wino drinking red wine.

  15. I think not, I am not going to mention class, but I would not spend money on an alcohol I didn't like, just to impress, what a waste of money, time and effort, people should be them selves, but always be courteous and polite, and  that doesn't cost anyone anything.

  16. Ha ha, when my mum came home one night n spewed up red sick coz she had drank 2 much red wine she didnt seem 2 upper class! gem x

  17. if they do there terribly mistaken i drink red wine and not because im posh im far from it. i drink it coz its cheap!!!

  18. Red wine is more beneficiary, and they think in that perspective probably

  19. No. However many red wines are known to have a deeper and more complex flavors. This is a fact.  It's also a fact that red wines have more antioxidants, isn't it?

Some people like cheap whites and can't tell the difference between cheap white plonk and white Puligny Montrachet.

Or rot gut whiskey from a rare Single Malt Scotch.

It's not so much a class difference as palate education.
