"Most recycling is a counter-productive waste of money and resources.

However, I am compelled by law to recycle, lest our benevolent and caring government send armed men to arrest me for the heinous crime of putting paper into the non-recycling bin"

So trying to reduce landfill and save the planet is a counter productive waste of money and time is it??? Gee, well we might as well just kiss the earth goodbye now then!!! *shakes head*

Yes and yes. Recycling is a vital thing to do and the more that is done the better.

  13. Yes and Yes.

It is said that the highest land areas on the map of California are it's landfill sites.

Yes recycling should become the norm for most countries. This not only reduces energy use in producing more products, but also reduces the ammount of raw materials used.

Manufacturers are being forced by new government directives (WEE directive)  to take back their products at the end of life (crossed our wheelie bin symbol - in the UK at least)

This will in turn force manufacturers to redesign their products to make this easier and cheaper. A good example of this, is products keeping all components surface mounted on boards, and using plastic light-guides to produce indicator lights on the products.

New machines are being developed to literally melt the plastic off products for recycling - using variable microwaves, and could play a major part in recycling centres.

  14. its good to recycle and use again instead of throwing stuff away

  15. I don't trust what the authorities do with their inadequate approach to recycling.  Most of what ends up in recycling boxes should never have been manufactured in the first place.  Individuals should recycle themselves and the council should charge for recycling by weight to discourage people from producing waste, and extra for collecting non-recycled waste.

Yes i do recycle, but recycling is a sign of failure because it means i have ended up producing waste.

  16. Yes, I do believe that recycling can help minimize our problems on green house effect, ozone layer depletion that contributes to global warming...It is a responsibility of each person to contribute to this endeavor but sad to say government officials seem not to care by not regulating the use of plastics and cellophanes that are being used for wrapping or as containers in department stores and other food chains.
