Do you think retired athletes miss the attention they used to get?

What I mean by this is when good athletes are playing, of course the good ones get all sorts of attention. Once they retire, that attention on them is gone. Do you think this why some of them retire/unretire back and forth, because they miss the attention they're used to getting for so many years?

I mean, how many times is FavreSPN going to mention their top story about Favre doing this or that. Next time I put on FSPN, I wouldn't be suprised if there top story was him getting gas in his vehicle. I mean, come on. Look at Roger Clemens, he doesn't even show up for spring training, waits a few months to see what team is in 1st place, and then starts negotiating with that team to pitch for.

Whatcha all think, do they miss the attention? This is my opinion. But sound off

  1. In Favre's case I think he just really loves the game.  However, with all the hype and tears shed over him retiring, I think it's pretty classless for him to throw such a baby fit to get reinstated.

  2. Michael Jordan isn't one of them, he just vanished... well came back 3,000 times so I guess that counts, but after that it was it.

I suspect Haines has him sequestered in a huge vault with lock and key and only lets him out to make some stupid add with Kevin Bacon or Charlie Sheen.

But in general, yes if they were big stars they like to keep at it as analysts on tv.

  3. no i dont simply because they have had there publicity.

  4. I don't think so.

They all just become Hosts on ESPN after they have all lived it up with they're money on some exotic beach, so I think they're fine.  And they ones who aren't as good, I think are just happy for the time they did have

  5. Yes i think it is always hard to be replaced by the younger model. However I really believe it is more about money than anything else. When you are used to a certain standard of living, it is easy to overpredict how long you might be able to maintain that lifestyle. With things continuing to go up in price and younger athletes and movie stars getting paid more than you once made, it is easy to see why a second dip from the pot is tempting.

  6. of course they do who wouldnt want to re-live the glory days. everyone basically knows you and want to BE you

  7. i think they would because they don't only like the attention, they crave it

  8. it depends...

my mom was a track star (national champ etc) and had a shot at the olympics in college... but she went to a school she hated with a mean coach who pushed her too hard. she ended up getting injured and transferring schools then right after that she had me...so that was the end of her career

she still talks about the "what if" and i think if she had chosen to leave on her own instead of being driven out by a series of events then she would be more content about leaving the sport...

some athletes retire and then realize they can't stand on the sidelines... others are fine leaving... it just depends... but i don't think it's the attention they miss... i think it's the game
