  1. I believe school will resume as normal. but if the storm gets too rough school might be dismissed early.  you can keep updated at this site,

http://www.wctv.tv  and once there look up weather.

  2. It's a tropical storm and I think it will be coming on Tuesday. There will probably be school on Monday, but maybe not Tuesday if you live in Florida.

Wait until Sunday and watch the news to see whether or not to evacuate etc.

  3. Oh, it will start..unless the hurricane is imminent...

  4. Schools close if bad weather is anticipated a day or two ahead of time.  the schools don't want to have to worry about the kids. they want the parents to take care of the kids.

Barrier islands are a special case.  they flood more than the mainland because they are lower. if your home is on the beach you need to worry about erosion if the storm moves slowly and spends more than a day just off your barrier island.   otherwise, living on a barrier island is a very fine experience.

  5. Well, we've already started earlier this year. We'd started when Hurricane Katrina hit also, about a week before. Then school stopped for a week and started up again the Tuesday after Labor Day. Of course 80 miles away in New Orleans they could not have school so we had many of their students. Most school systems will have updates on their web sites or on an information telephone line. Check them for your school district.
