  1. Only if they qualify under the income guidelines.

  2. Why?  Because one or both parents are in the military, or is this a wage issue?  Neither argument passes muster with me.  Families that can afford school lunches pay and families that can't apply for subsidies.  I don't believe in preferential treatment for anyone.

  3. Maybe for dependents of junior enlisted.  It can be kind of rough on those guys, raising kids on E-2 pay.

I don't think it should be a blanket thing for all military families.  Officers and senior enlisted don't need assistance; unless they can't manage their finances.

  4. Depends on rank. A Private would need it more than the Colonel. Miliary families of junior enlisted personnel would bennifit most.

  5. Not at all..Why would they?.Lets not go overboard with wanting to give certain people these benefits..

  6. they base the reduced or free lunches on income, not jobs. so it doesnt matter if you are a doctor or a someone who flips burgers, (or military) if you cant afford lunch for you kids then you cant afford it.

my family is military and this year is the first year we are getting a free lunch. I am glad they base it on income only.

  7. heck yah the military should be glorifyed in every level of society.

    so yes.

honor our fighting men and woman.

  8. where I live every student gets free lunch and breakfast in public school. NYC. I though everywhere was like this.

  9. I am a wife to an enlisted airman and we dont have kids quite yet, but I had this conversation with some friends earlier this week.

A big problem at alot of bases (from alot of stories I hear) is at alot of schools is thus -

In military housing - Usually qualify for reduce lunch

Out of military housing - not so much.

Alot of families I talk to are forced to find off base housing due to limited housing on base.  Some bases have a few years on the list. Alot of bases have problems with BAH not being enough for the bare necessities.  (I have had this problem before)

An example of one of my friends: E-6 1 kid on base gets reduced lunches, E-4 2 kids off base (2yr wait for base housing and BAH doesnt cover all the utilities/rent/etc)  doesnt get reduced period, because BAH is counted twards income.  (neither of these two familys have major debt.)

That is not the case for every family.  I would answer this question by saying they need to rework the guidelines for every family, military or no.  Not just income, but based on what money they keep at the end of a paycheck after they pay for keeping a roof over their heads, area they live in... there are so many factors now a days =(

  10. Yes.  I think our military families should receive all the service assistance available because the breadwinner is away making it possible for someone like me to sit here and answer your asinine question.

  11. Make too much huh??  Yea so do we and it is expensive for the kids to eat at school.  But unfortuntly they can't pick and choose between military and civilians.  I don't agree with how expensive the lunches are and how we don't qualify...but i also don't agree with how CDC uses your income to determine how much your childcare is going to be.  We are in the highest class because I work also...and they add in BAH and special duty pay.  How fair is that??

  12. yes, military pay, is not exactly great

  13. honestly i think luch should come from our tax money. i just graduated and lunch was $2.10. i understood that my fresh man year it was 1.75 but then went to 1.90 and then to 2.10 but in my opinion its school they should at least go by the quarter because kids don't carry 2.10 a day ya know? that's more than 10 dollars a week for crappy lunch. i would reieve for example a slice of pizza that was super thin, maybe some fries which were never fully cooked due to the high demand of kids and needing more. also a pint of milk which isn't anything. my girlfriend moved from california where she said that  the ramen noodle in a cup were given to any child that asked. i think that is a reasonable 38 cents spent. growning up  in maryland i was denied lunch because i didn't have money and my parents were barely above the range to not get the benefits of reduce or free lunch. i think its not fair that there is a law to "provide a lunch time" but not fill the lunch. they expect kids to do well in school but how can they if they don't have food in their bodies. i'm not sure if i'm the only one who thinks this way but i wish the school officials could see the "reasonable" demands of the kids and not paper statistics and money.

  14. Why we get paid way more than most American citizens we just don't have to pay tax on most of our pay.  Why does everyone think military members are starving to death?  If anybody is it is because they manage their money like slobs.
