Do you think shows like high school musical have too much influence on young kids?

I recently returned from a trip out to see my family filled with little girls, ages 5,6 and 7 cousins and sisters. I have 2 boys and the thought of raising a little girl in todays media scares me. They all are obsessed with high school musical, whenever they play pretend they all pretend they are teenagers and I swear they dress like bratz dolls. Am I over reacting or are kids wanting to get older to fast ( I swear more than when I was a little girl)

I don't think it is bad influence, but you should make sure that a five year old watches Y rated movies if you are worried. But the others I think are ok.

well it`s normal for some one to react to there favorite movie like that but i do agree it does give them to much of and um don`t take it away form them though just use it to your advange and if they be bad then take it away see what i mean

I wouldn't worry so much about HSM because of the message that goes along with it.  On the other hand, I have a 6 y/o and we do not let her play with Bratz or anything related.  That may be extreme to some people, but I believe I have the responsibility as a parent to limit what my daughter is exposed to.  I don't think it is being prudish to not allow your daughter to dress like a "hoochie mama".  We need to pay attention to what our children are watching and listening to so we can talk to them about the messages they are getting from popular media.

Yes. But don't worry to much, it's the way all little girls are. Just keep them off drugs or from being groupies.

There is a simple answer to this:  keep media out of your home.  Of course, this requires that adult give up things they may not wish to give up, but still...

I don't think hsm is a bad influence on children. It has many positive messages,and you can see this by just looking at the song title's- We are all in this together, Stick to the status quo (a song about being yourself), etc. Its a great musical and many of the characters are positive role models.
