I believe there is already social work research that has looked at internet based elements (not sure about social networking).  Should this become a dominant place for social work research - absolutely NOT.  Given that a major concern of social work is poverty and those in poverty have less access to the web, it would not be best to focus on this.

I personally believe that the internet is a society within itself, so if these peoples' jobs are to research society, then they should check out social networking sites. I also believe that these sites are extremely socially unhealthy, but social none the less.
