  1. Its a nice idea...but I'm not sure how it would work.  Depending on the number of students in the school, you'll end up running out of projects for them to do.  You can only clean up highway trash so many times.  I'm not cleaning trash on the highway teaches kids anything anyway.  You'd have to find projects for them to do that not only help the community but TEACH something as well.  Even if you have all students do this when they're, um...say freshmen...you'll risk running out of tasks.  You also have to realize that in order to do community projects, the community must be involved too.

  2. NO

  3. At my school it's required that all 4 years of high school we do community service, but I also go to a private catholic school and if we don't do it we kinda get kicked out.

    This is how it goes:

Freshman - Do stuff in your neighborehood.

    Sophomore - Work for a non-profit organization.

Junior - Work directly with the needy and homeless, such as soup kitchens, places that give out things to people.

    Senior - I don't know yet...

But we have to have proof we did it, and it's kinda of a pain because it has to be a certain amount of hours.

  4. Yes because it exposes kids to lots of under-funded programs that they may begin to feel passionate about.

  5. No. You're at school to learn, not work for the community. In any case, it doesn't teach you much if you're forced into it. Nor does it help employers. What does help is finding the people who volunteered for these things.
