  1. No, unfortunately.  With existing chemical rockets, it costs about $10,000 for each pound you launch into low Earth orbit. We would go broke building an O'Neill type space colony. Developing a cheaper and more reliable means of getting into space (like a space elevator) needs to be developed before the dream of space colonization can ever become a reality.


  2. Have you watched 10 most likely Disasters that aired on Discovery Channel ..... Nuclear War, Biological threats, Robots and AI beings taking over...we don't have a chance.

  3. i think it unlikely in the perceivable future.

    too much material, too complicated, unreasonable life support requirements, and insufficient benefit.

    for just about the same reasons, we're not about to send people to mars.  that's a red herring if there ever was one.  (hey, stop complaining about the war, and let's think about a trip to mars.)
