  1. Hi Vanessa,

I'm hoping that others are getting as tired of psychological terms as I am. Co-dependence could also mean standing by someone during a troubled time. I think that's what it might have been called before all this psycho-babble became such a large part of our vocabulary.

  2. Independence in and of itself isn't a mental illness..it's a personality trait.  That trait can be created based off the way the person was raised, the way there friends and family influence them, and the way they have been from birth.  That is the same for animals.  People say cats are independent creatures...generally that is true but not always.  There are some cats that are more dependent that you would suspect.  Co-Dependency as an illness would mean you are SO co-dependent on someone that you did not have the ability to live without having access to the dependency itself...which is unhealthy.  Whether it's really a mental "Illness" or not I don't know..what I do know is the hyperactive Dependency is dangerous not only for you but the person your overly dependent on...this is generally were suicide comes into play..when dependency is taken to far and somehow let down.  It definitely exists..just not necessarily the way everyone thinks it does.

  3. NO it does lol.

  4. Almost everyone is codependent in one form or another to a lesser or greater degree. Don't let labels distract you.
